Fabrizio Romano has transfer update over Curtis Jones at Liverpool, ‘be careful’

Curtis Jones is one of several Liverpool players with question marks over their future heading into the summer.

One of Liverpool’s longest-serving players, Jones is strongly considering an exit after 16 years. He isn’t satisfied with his role under Arne Slot, having started just 14 league games this season.

The signs are there to suggest his head will be turned. Talks over a new contract have stalled, and now Fabrizio Romano is saying he could be one to watch on the market this summer.

Fabrizio Romano says Curtis Jones is one to keep an eye on

Liverpool already have issues to resolve in the midfield, but that task becomes significantly bigger if Jones leaves Anfield.

And that’s a very real possibility, as Romano recently explained on The Here We Go Podcast.

He said: ““I want to start with an underrated player, in my view, who could be one of the names of the summer on the market and we will be talking about midfielders and it’s Curtis Jones. Because Curtis Jones is out of contract at Liverpool in summer 2027.

“At the moment, to my understanding, there is no agreement to sign a new contract. At the moment, everything is on total standby between Curtis Jones, his camp and Liverpool. And so be careful with this situation because several clubs are tracking Curtis Jones.

“There was interest from Premier League already in the January transfer window. There was interest also from Inter in Serie A in January and I think Inter remain keen on the player. So there could be movements around Curtis Jones and you can imagine an important midfielder like him out of contract in 2027 could be a really interesting option.”

There’s no doubt the demand for Jones will be high if an exit is on the table. He’s still only 25 and has heaps of Premier League experience.

There will be clubs in England who look at him as a very safe recruitment bet, but his game is equally compatible with somewhere like La Liga or Serie A.

Jones has responded to Liverpool doubts with some quality performances in recent weeks, and he clearly still offers value to Slot. It does seem like his future at Liverpool will be determined by his own ambitions.
