The dust has not yet settled after Mohamed Salah’s bombshell exit announcement, but already the question on everybody’s lips is who will replace the Liverpool legend.
Even before his departure was confirmed, Liverpool have been doing their due diligence in planning for life after the Egyptian.
Some of the most exciting talents around Europe have been identified as transfer targets, including Michael Olise, Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola.
Which players should Liverpool target to replace Mohamed Salah this summer? 🤔
But Liverpool won’t get a fee for Salah, and if they miss Champions League qualification, the finances will look even more concerning. That’s where Jarrod Bowen comes in as a Premier League-proven, relegation-threatened star who Ally McCoist is putting forward as a suggestion.
Ally McCoist loves Jarrod Bowen as a Mo Salah replacement
McCoist, like everyone else, is trying to picture life after Salah at Liverpool.
Fabrizio Romano revealed Liverpool’s plan is to recruit one or two wingers in the summer despite suggestions that the wide responsibilities will be going to the full-backs next season.
We all know the elite options around Europe, but McCoist loves the idea of going for an Englishman who is far too good to play in the Championship.
He made his recommendation on talkSPORT on Wednesday, saying: “I’ll throw a name at you. West Ham’s fans will hate me for saying it, but if West Ham go down, what about Jarrod Bowen? I’m a massive fan of Jarrod Bowen. I’ve got to say, Lord, I love him.

“Anytime I go and watch West Ham, I mean, clearly they’ve got a big fight in their hands. And if they didn’t stay up, you would maybe suggest they’d lose one or two of their best players. He could play for Liverpool in that side.”
A glowing review for the West Ham captain, who has been a model of consistency in the Premier League throughout the 2020s. He might not be the ‘sexy’ option, but he would surely settle in well.
As an added bonus, Jurgen Klopp once called Bowen ‘unbelievable’. Now that’s a review that matters.
Liverpool can expand their squad rather than directly replace Salah
We know Liverpool are looking at wingers, but it’s not like they will find one who can replicate the Egyptian’s production.
Is Mohamed Salah Liverpool’s greatest EVER player?
Nine years of sheer brilliance are coming to an end…
Insiders say Wirtz and Isak are the future of Liverpool, with Hugo Ekitike and Rio Ngumoha also promising to contribute massively in the coming years.
So maybe a direct replacement isn’t necessary. Rather, they could flesh out the squad that Arne Slot so often complains about with a couple of wide options that don’t command marquee figures.
Bowen fits that bill, especially if the Hammers can’t escape relegation.
