Steven Gerrard was left wondering where the version of Liverpool which beat Galatasaray 4-0 on Wednesday has been all season.
The Reds put in a much-improved display at Anfield to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first-leg and qualify for the quarter-finals.
Liverpool were aggressive, pressed high and stuck four brilliant finishes into the back of the net. And while he described it as a ‘perfect’ night for Arne Slot and his team, former Reds captain Gerrard questioned why they can’t play like that more often.

There was much more energy vs Galatasaray, could that change things?
Gerrard wants more Liverpool consistency
Liverpool’s performance from Sunday against Tottenham to under the lights on Wednesday was chalk and cheese. Slot looked like a man born again on the touchline, and his team followed suit.
Some poor missed chances aside, it was as good a night as it could possibly have been for the Reds’ head coach, and it begs the question why he hasn’t had Liverpool playing like this all season.
That was the question Gerrard asked while analysing the game at full-time for TNT Sports.

“Dominant, excellent from start to finish, great individual performances, fantastic goals, a different intensity, different speed of play, a perfect night for Arne Slot and the team,” he said.
“The big question is why can’t we see that more consistently.”
The answer to that is one only Slot, his backroom team and the Liverpool players will know. Yes, Galatasaray were poor, but that does not matter, the Reds showed that they can do all the things it looked like they had simply forgotten how to do.
If they are to stand any chance of progressing past PSG and into the semi-finals, they will have to bring that same energy again. The aim should be to use this as a springboard to answering Gerrard’s questions. Use it, and Liverpool could still end the season strongly.
