The Liverpool owners simply should not wait anymore after Sunday’s dismal 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur: Arne Slot needs to go.
There have been various moments in the Reds’ season when Slot has felt to be living on the very edge of his luck in regards to keeping his job.
But as the boos rang around Anfield following another late equaliser, it truly felt like the jig is up. This manager is taking Liverpool to oblivion and unless they pull the trigger on Sunday, there is a real chance that the Reds’ season will be all-but over by Wednesday night’s critical clash with Galatasaray.
Who was Liverpool’s best player on another poor day at Anfield?
Not many to choose from…
Slot will take Liverpool out of the Champions League
For a long time now it has felt as though Liverpool are simply trying to get to the end of the season with as little damage done as possible.
While that is understandable in some respects, the Reds have an absolutely ideal candidate waiting by the phone for a call in Xabi Alonso.
Alonso may not be willing to take on a new club right by the end of a season, but Liverpool should absolutely be testing his will to resist them. If they offer him the job on Sunday evening, would he really turn them down?
If he does, then so be it, get an agreement in for the summer and give Mr Liverpool, Steven Gerrard a call. The Scouser would surely reinvigorate these players to a degree which could get them through to the end of the season playing with far more energy.

Energy is exactly what is needed for Liverpool to turn around Wednesday’s Champions League tie with Galatasaray, but with Slot in charge, it does not feel especially likely that the Reds will get it.
Anfield has often been Liverpool’s secret weapon on nights like Wednesday, but as the Tottenham draw proved once again, it no longer has any kind of aura for visiting clubs.
Slot simply does not seem capable of inspiring his players to turn anything around this season, and with hopes still hanging that Liverpool can do something special in the Champions League, a decision on his future absolutely must be made.
The Reds are obviously still in the FA Cup as well, but with a tough draw against Manchester City to come in early April, there feels little to no chance that they will make it through under Slot. Bringing a new manager in immediately would give the players enough chance to get themselves ready for what still could be a good end to the campaign.
Three words to sum up another awful performance?
Is anyone surprised anymore?
Gerrard could give Liverpool an immediate lift
Ordinarily in these circumstances, it would make little sense to change a manager, and you would be gambling on throwing more instability into the mix.
But Liverpool have been that bad for that long, that the only real way is up. They must give themselves a chance of getting through in both cup competitions, and allowing Slot to continue his ineffective approach is not the way to do that.
If Alonso is determined to hold out until the end of the campaign, then Gerrard absolutely would be the right man to take over.
The former captain has managerial chops having won an undefeated league title with Rangers, and although his stint at Aston Villa did not go to plan, he also has experience of managing in the Premier League.
More than that, though, Gerrard would instantly get a disillusioned fanbase back on side, and he would give a rocket to players who have been guilty of sleepwalking through matches. He would not stand for that.
It is not in Liverpool’s makeup to lay down a change like this with so little time before such a big game, but if they are to have any hope of salvaging anything at all, they simply have to swing the axe.
