Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has shown his admiration for Liverpool talent Ryan Gravenberch this week.
Gravenberch has signed a new contract at Anfield this month after cementing himself as a key figure in Arne Slot’s midfield.
The 2025/26 season may not have gone to plan for the Dutchman, whose side risk losing out on Champions League football to Chelsea, but Blues ace Caicedo still ‘enjoys’ watching one of his rivals in action.
Arne Slot thinks Tottenham will be a tough game because of their new manager, who has lost four games in a row! 😵💫
Moises Caicedo enjoys watching Ryan Gravenberch play for Liverpool
Speaking to Sky Sports this week, the South American was discussing fellow Premier League midfielders he likes.
Alongside Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba, Caicedo had high praise for Gravenberch.
He said: “The other player I like is Gravenberch. So good. So good. And Baleba as well. Both of them.
“They are so good. And yeah, I normally watch them when they play. So yeah, I enjoy when they play.”
Who is your dream Liverpool manager in 2026/27?
Jurgen Klopp or Xabi Alonso? 🤤
How close Moises Caicedo came to joining Liverpool
Had things gone differently a few years ago, Caicedo may well have been lining out alongside Gravenberch this season.
Back in August 2023, it was reported by James Pearce that Liverpool had agreed a British record £110m fee with Brighton for the player.
The Ecuador national team even teased the signing being completed at the time, writing ‘You’ll never walk alone’ on their X/Twitter account alongside a picture of the now Chelsea man.
However, the Blues swooped in ahead of Liverpool, with Caicedo texting Jurgen Klopp to express his feelings on moving to Merseyside.
After Klopp reached out, it is said that the 24-year-old replied that while he appreciated the interest, he only wanted to move to Stamford Bridge.
A real shame for Liverpool, whose midfield has been called a ‘big problem’ by Wayne Rooney this season.
Caicedo could have been an ideal addition, especially if Curtis Jones leaves amid uncertainty around his future.
