Liverpool stand on the verge of signing Moises Caciedo, after a cheeky update from the Ecuador national team.

Caicedo is one of the faces of the Ecuadorian side, having already won over 30 caps for them aged just 21.

And upon hearing news that Liverpool have agreed a British record transfer fee for him last night, ‘La Tri’ took to Twitter to post their apparent delight.

“You’ll never walk alone,” wrote the official account, accompanied by a picture of Caicedo in their home strip.

Well, I wonder what that could be referring to!

Ecuador give the game away

This is quite a surprise to see from an official team account before any official confirmation has come out.

But there must be real, genuine excitement in Ecuador for Caicedo.

The South American nation have had big players in the past. Antonio Valencia played for years at Manchester United and even captained the side in the latter part of his spell there.

They’ve never had anything quite like this, though.

Caicedo is set to become the most expensive player in the history of the British transfer market. That’s bound to be enormous, enormous news for his country.

For Liverpool, it also represents a landmark. The Reds have never had an Ecuadorian represent them. What a way to get the first one through the door.

It also means that Liverpool will have five South American players from five different South American countries. Hopefully Alisson Becker of Brazil, Alexis Mac Allister of Argentina, Luis Diaz of Colombia and Darwin Nunez of Uruguay can help him settle in.
