If Arne Slot is to be given the sack at the end of the season, we shouldn’t expect Steven Gerrard to be in the mix for the Liverpool job.
Since retiring over a decade ago, Gerrard has managed Rangers, Aston Villa and most recently, Al-Ettifaq.
His time in Scotland was the most fruitful, going unbeaten to a league title.
But he hasn’t set the world alight since then. Jamie Carragher said Gerrard won’t be Liverpool’s next manager.

The man himself hinted at the same when he was asked about replacing Jurgen Klopp back in 2020.
Steven Gerrard doesn’t want Liverpool job until he’s ready
It’s a romantic idea, one of Liverpool’s most iconic players taking the reins at Anfield. Klopp himself floated it about halfway through his spell as manager.
Gerrard’s still a beloved figure on Merseyside and seeing him in the dugout would be quite special.
But this idea has been floated to him before, and he made it clear that timing was of the utmost importance.
He said (via ESPN): “I wouldn’t take the Liverpool job just because of what Jurgen said. I’m quite mature enough to know I have to be ready for the Liverpool job.
“I think there are a lot of people out there naturally who think that after Rangers, if Jurgen was to go in a year or a few years’ time I’m next. I think a lot of people think that.
“I’m in no rush to try and jump. I think, for me, there’s a realisation that if it’s going to happen, it’ll happen. The job offer will come at some point.”
Unless you’re Kenny Dalglish, you only get one bite of the cherry as Liverpool manager.
Gerrard knows this, and wants to make sure when he gets the chance, he takes it.
He needs to go find success elsewhere and prove to Liverpool, and to himself, that he has the ability to take that step. Until then, he won’t be in the mix.

Is that a controversial thing to say? I don’t think so.
Many Liverpool fans have grown frustrated with Slot, but he is a Premier League winner with an equally impressive track record in Holland.

Where would be the ideal destination?
The only scenario where sacking Slot makes sense is one where the man replacing him is an obvious upgrade, or at the very least, on his level. Even then, I think it depends on how this season pans out.
Gerrard is young. He has a whole career in management ahead of him if he wants it.
It would be amazing to see him as Liverpool manager, but not before he earns it.
