Liverpool and Nottingham Forest went head-to-head at the City Ground on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot fielded a strong XI that saw Dominik Szoboszlai return at right-back after he picked up a one-match ban during the defeat to Manchester City.

Liverpool have since won two games in a row, most recently knocking Brighton and Hove Albion out of the FA Cup.

This weekend saw attention once again turn back to the league and the race for Champions League football.

Liverpool went into the game knowing a win would temporarily put them level on points with Manchester United, who do not play until Monday.

Liverpool fans question Curtis Jones vs Nottingham Forest

The Reds started the game poorly, with Florian Wirtz’s late exclusion from the squad having a clear impact.

Curtis Jones was brought into the team, starting at the head of midfield.

However, the Liverpool product was poor and gave the ball away several times, which led to some good Nottingham Forest chances.

In turn, fans were asking and demanding Szoboszlai to be put in the 10 role and Jones moved into the back four.

One fan asked: “Why is Jones playing in the 10 when Szoboszlai is on the pitch?”

A second stated: “Switch Jones and Szoboszlai’s positions.”

“Since Jones is on, we need to put Szoboszlai in midfield and Jones at RB,” a third added.

Another commented: “Jones should be at right back, with no Wirtz we desperately need creativity of Szoboszlai.”

“Why is Szoboszlai again at RB while Jones play as 10? Surely should be opposite,” questioned another fan.

A sixth wrote: “Play Jones right-back. It’s awful to play Szoboszlai at right-back.”

And another echoed: “Why’s Curtis Jones in the midfield with Szoboszlai at RB? Why not switch?”

Why Florian Wirtz missed Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool

At present, fans are still waiting for Slot to provide an official update on the German.

He was initially included in the XI but pulled out less than 15 minutes before the game kicked off.

On their live blog, Liverpool wrote: “Looks like a late change to the Liverpool starting line-up, with Curtis Jones coming in for Florian Wirtz. Freddie Woodman comes in on the bench.”
