After Sunday’s loss, Liverpool were in the firing line for plenty of criticism for their performance, and Roy Keane has made a particularly bold suggestion about Arne Slot’s first Premier League title.
When the full-time whistle was finally sounded after 100 minutes of action at Anfield, there was an air of disappointment around the ground.
It was an instance of Liverpool being undone at the death, after looking to be in the driver’s seat for much of the second half.
Who was Liverpool’s best player during the breathless defeat against Man City?
Jamie Carragher is losing faith in Slot, and alongside him, Keane is taking aim at him too.
Roy Keane suggests Liverpool weren’t as good as everyone thought last season
It seems the reigning champions have fallen so far from grace that their past achievements are now being cast in doubt.
Keane was on Sky Sports discussing the small margins by which this tie was won, and casting his mind back to last season.
He said: “Last year, Liverpool won a lot of games by the odd goal, wasn’t it. So maybe last year… I’m not taking away from them winning the title last year, but maybe they weren’t as good as we all thought.

“And now, you’ve got senior players making big mistakes. Obviously it’s gonna cost you.”
The legendary Man United captain has a lot of good takes. This is not one of them.
Keane is forgetting something about Liverpool’s title, and about Man United
This suggestion from Keane has a few holes.
Liverpool walked the Premier League, losing just four games all season and ending ten points clear of the competition.
Yes there were some clutch moments and narrow victories, but that’s not considered luck in football. There is a skill to coming up with moments at crucial times, and it’s one Liverpool mastered last campaign.
The Irishman might need reminding of the phrase born out of his team’s own tendency to scrape through by the finest of margins. Fergie Time, anyone?
It’s true that this season, it has been a woeful record of late losses. Liverpool have been on the other end of the spectrum completely.
What is the reason for this? It can’t just be coincidence!
A shocking statistic from a shocking season
But that doesn’t take away from Liverpool’s title win last season, just like it doesn’t take away from any of Keane’s trophies won thanks to last-gasp moments of magic.
Some teams have it, some teams don’t. The Reds need to find it again.
