After missing out on Marc Guehi to Man City, the reception he got from the Liverpool fans was exactly what you would expect.
Liverpool’s number one centre-back target ended up joining Pep Guardiola instead, with City prepared to make him one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League.
The decision was never going to go down well with those at Anfield, but especially not with how much the Reds have struggled defensively this season.
It was a frosty reception right from the whistle.
Happy with Szobo at right-back, Reds?
Liverpool fans jeering and booing Marc Guehi after Man City kick-off
The logic behind any resentment towards Guehi is difficult to understand, but then, football can often let emotions trump reason.
Guehi wanted to join Liverpool, going as far as to complete his medical on deadline day last summer. The move was ripped away at the last second.
When January came around, Liverpool were pipped by City because of their willingness to overpay on the Englishman’s wages. Not much you can hold against him.

Despite that, his first touch of the ball was marked by boos ringing around the ground.
Ian Doyle wrote on X: “Big jeers for Guehi whenever he’s on the ball from the LFC fans so far.”
But you didn’t have to be there in the flesh to notice the reaction. It was very clear on the broadcast as well.
Liverpool can sign a better centre-back than Guehi next summer
Guehi was the best option available for Liverpool given his contract situation at Crystal Palace, but there are better alternatives we can now explore.
It’s not a slight on Guehi, but he isn’t a defender who has played at the highest level in Europe, nor has he competed for titles to this point.
What was Liverpool’s BIGGEST MISTAKE of the window? 👀
Someone like Alessandro Bastoni or Nico Schlotterbeck would be an even more exciting addition.
Let’s not get too hung up on a player now kitting out for a rival.
