The January transfer window is now shut, and it was a relatively quiet one for Liverpool.
By the time the month of January itself came to a close, it was just two new arrivals in Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Tialla Ndiaye — two young centre-backs going to the academy setup. Ndukwe won’t come until the summer.
That would have been quite the let-down, but luckily, the Reds had another deal up their sleeves.
Liverpool reached an agreement for Jeremy Jacquet of Rennes, though he too will be a summer arrival.

Liverpool came close to a couple of sales
It was thought that the notion of Andy Robertson leaving was dead in the water.
Well, it is, but Spurs called about Robertson on deadline day just to make sure. Curtis Jones was linked to Inter and Spurs, but he too is staying put.
Fedrico Chiesa might have ended up at Juventus, but negotiations hit a wall.
The only outgoings were academy players. All but one went on loan.
No right-back reinforcement
With Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley currently injured, the Reds explored adding another right-back to the squad.
Lutsharel Geertruida was linked heavily with Liverpool, but Sunderland were not willing to let his loan be cut short.
Another option circulating was Rolland Sallai of Galatasaray, but those links died down as quickly as they emerged.
As a result, Arne Slot will have to continue being creative in how he covers for those two absences. Hopefully Frimpong can make a swift recovery.
All in all, it wasn’t the window fans were hoping for.
Jacquet is a real coup, and will likely be a star at Anfield for years to come.

But he doesn’t help Liverpool’s prospects for this season, and it now feels like we will need to limp to the finish line with a squad down to its bare bones.
