Arne Slot is having to find creative solutions for Liverpool’s injury crisis, and it’s not going to please everyone.
Especially at the back, the squad is down to its bare bones.
That’s why Liverpool are going after Lutsharel Geertruida before deadline day.
How would you feel if Liverpool sign Lutsharel Geertruida?
Talks are underway!
He can play all across the back and in midfield, and his arrival would allow for one Liverpool star to resume his normal duties.
With a yet-to-be-resolved contract predicament in play, it would be for the best.
Dominik Szoboszlai wants out of Liverpool right-back role
A player who can perform at an elite level in any position is a manager’s dream.
That’s exactly what Dominik Szoboszlai is.
Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player over the course of this campaign, properly coming into his own in his third season at Anfield.
He was deployed at right-back against Newcastle in the absence of Jeremie Frimpong, Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez. The performance was exactly what was needed, but it’s not where the Hungarian wants to be playing.

As is reported by ESPN, he spoke about playing in the back line, and made it clear how he feels about the role long-term.
He says: “Not long-term, not even medium-term to be honest in my head,” he said. “As I’ve said before, I’m a midfielder and hopefully our right-back is going to come back from injury, and I can get back in the middle.
“But if the team needs me, or the coach needs me there, I will play and try to give my best but now Wata [Endo] is ready to play, also Curtis [Jones] is ready to play there, so we have quite a few options now.”
Szoboszlai is giving Slot alternatives so that he can return to his preferred role in midfield, and his reason is understandable.
He continues: “I am the type of guy who it is never enough for me, I can always be better and better, so there is no limit up there. I would like to get as many goals as I can, as many assists and win as many trophies as possible. That’s my plan.”
No one would argue that he is better-utilised further up the pitch, but how lucky we are to have that option of playing him anywhere. A proper all-rounder.
Where will Dominik Szoboszlai rank among PL midfielders when all is said and done?
Dominik Szoboszlai discusses Liverpool contract renewal
Szoboszlai is a possible future Liverpool captain, and FSG would be wise to press forward with locking him down to a lengthy deal.
His contract isn’t up until 2028, but talks have already been held over an extension.
For now, though, no real progress has been made.
That’s according to Szoboszlai who says: “Nothing yet, to be honest. Nothing, from now on … it is not in my hands. It works this way. There is no progression but if the right offer comes, then let’s see.
“Let’s see what happens, hopefully everyone will be happy at the end. Of course [I want to stay]. I like the city, I like the club, I like playing with these guys, I love Anfield, I love the fans, let’s see what the future holds.
“It is not on me. I would love to [stay]. We will see.”

His stance sounds pretty clear. Time is not a factor yet but it would be better not to leave it until the final year, avoiding a repeat of last season’s painful contract saga.
