Key Liverpool reason for not hiring Ruben Amorim vindicated as Arne Slot strengthens position

Ruben Amorim has been sacked 14 months after joining Man United, with Liverpool almost hiring him before opting for Arne Slot.

The Reds might only be three points above rivals Manchester United as things stand, but they have decided to pull the trigger and gamble on sacking Amorim.

This has left many Liverpool fans confused as to how Slot is still in a job, but they should probably count themselves lucky as things could have looked very different if the hierarchy changed one decision.

Why won’t Liverpool follow Man United’s lead and SACK Arne Slot?

Before Slot was hired, Liverpool reportedly had an agreement in place to hire Amorim instead, but they pulled away from him for many reasons.

However, there was one overriding factor that meant they looked elsewhere, and 18 months on, Man United are feeling the effects of it, showing how the Reds dodged a big bullet.

Liverpool were worried about Ruben Amorim’s system

Amorim took the Portuguese league by storm with Sporting CP and was one of the hottest managers around, so it was no wonder Liverpool were exploring a potential deal.

However, after weeks of negotiations, and a deal even being agreed, they pulled out, with one of the reasons being his stubbornness to deploy a three-at-the-back formation.

Liverpool felt that it did not suit the players they had and that it was not exciting enough, something that would have been a big change from the football they played under Jurgen Klopp.

They have been proven right 18 months on too as Man United fans were begging for change for so long, with his system simply not working.

It was also very boring to watch and did not get results, which is a key reason he has been shown the exit door, highlighting just how smart Liverpool’s hierarchy are.

Arne Slot’s position at Liverpool feels fairly safe

Slot was a cut above the rest back then, and he clearly is now too, with it hard to see who does a better job than him now based on the options available.

His football was exciting and got the job done, and although it might not be now, with a full-strength team, they can certainly get back to the levels they were once at.

Some fans cannot believe that Slot has outlasted the likes of Enzo Maresca and now Amorim, but the credit he has in the bank shows exactly why, and it is more than likely that he can turn the ship back around.
