Liverpool were linked with a number of players prior to the 2026 January transfer window opening.

The Reds have added AS Monaco player Lamine Camara to their shortlist, reports in France say.

Meanwhile, after Liverpool failed to get a move over the line this past summer, it is now being claimed that Marc Guehi would give priority to Real Madrid.

Liverpool can only sign ONE player this January, which position should they strengthen?

The Englishman will become a free agent at the end of June and can now sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs.

This may mean Liverpool need to look at other centre-back targets, but recent comments made by one such player are not good news.

Nico Schlotterbeck reveals his goals

Nico Schlotterbeck is reportedly a Liverpool target amid his contract with Borussia Dortmund, like Guehi’s, expiring later this year.

Schlotterbeck sent Florian Wirtz a message recently, perhaps offering fans some hope of a potential Anfield switch.

However, as per Buli News, the defender has now spoken out about his desire to win a championship in his home country of Germany.

He said: “I have the goal of winning a championship in Germany.

“We have been close. The Champions League is very difficult to win – we were close there too. In the DFB-Pokal, I was close as well. As a professional footballer, I’ve only won the U21 European Championship. Now I want to actually hold something in my hands.

Dortmund are already nine points adrift of Bayern Munich in the race for the Bundesliga title this season, so it looks as though Schlotterbeck won’t be tasting championship gold this term at least.

Liverpool have other centre-back targets

While moves for Guehi and the Dortmund stopper don’t seem too likely this month, there are other potential targets at Anfield.

Reports this week say that the Reds have looked at another Crystal Palace centre-back, with discussions over Maxence Lacroix having taken place.

The Frenchman would certainly add some pace to the Reds’ backline, while another defender could also be available.

Joel Ordonez is linked to Liverpool, and RTK have previously revealed that Club Brugge would not stand in the way of a January exit should a significant offer arrive.
