Liverpool are always aware of any potential market opportunities.
2026 is almost here and for the Reds, it is set to be an exciting one filled with plenty of transfer activity, and this could start as early as January.
There are plenty of positions where they need reinforcements, but midfield is one where Liverpool would be looking for depth rather than first-choice options.
Liverpool can only sign ONE player this January, which position should they strengthen?
For that reason, they have identified a few young stars to potentially bring in, with one of them described as the ‘rising star in African football’.
Liverpool add Lamine Camara to their shortlist
One name who many Liverpool fans will not have heard of is Lamine Camara, but by the end of AFCON, he might be the hottest property.
The 21-year-old has established himself as a regular at AS Monaco, with the Senegalese star a box-to-box midfielder who has attracted some top teams.

And according to Jeunes Footeux, Liverpool have added him to their shortlist, as have Tottenham and Man United.
His manager is a big fan of his, though, so letting him go seems unlikely, although if an attractive offer comes in, it is reported that they could be tempted.
Camara was signed for just £11m but is now said to be worth around £43m, showing how far he has come on in just over a year.
Liverpool are said to see him as an ideal candidate to add depth, but his performance at AFCON could attract even more attention on to him and raise the price further.
Maghnes Akliouche is also on Liverpool’s shortlist
What was Liverpool’s best goal of 2025?
According to the same report, Camara’s teammate Maghnes Akliouche is also on Liverpool’s radar, suggesting Monaco could get raided this winter.
He is a slightly different type of player, though, with the Frenchman being more of an attacking footballer who would bring more quality on the ball.
At just 23, he has room to grow too, but getting any chance in the first team seems unlikely given the likes of Florian Wirtz.
Both are very young and still have a lot to prove, but they could be two names to keep tabs on over the coming weeks.
