The 2026 January transfer window is fast approaching, and Liverpool could be active.
Despite spending over £400m on players during the summer, there is more room for potential additions in the coming weeks.
As finance expert Adam Williams told RTK, Liverpool are in good financial shape and should they wish to do so, FSG could quite easily spend £100m.
Who has been Liverpool’s best player in 2025?
Will that happen? It remains to be seen, but there are a number of potential options that have been linked with an Anfield switch.
Liverpool’s defensive record in 2025/26 so far isn’t great, so that area may be looked at. Here are four options.
Marc Guehi
Perhaps the most talked-about name going into January is Marc Guehi.
Liverpool tried to sign Guehi earlier this year, but their offer, said to be £35m, was shut down.
A potential January transfer has been mooted. However, there is competition for his signature.
The Crystal Palace stopper is set to become a free agent in June, and Bayern Munich are interested in signing the player to a pre-contract, having already had two meetings.
Alessandro Bastoni
Perhaps more tentative links than anything else, but Alessandro Bastoni is thought to be an option for the Reds in 2026.
However, the Inter Milan defender is not expected to be cheap.
RTK have previously been told by transfer expert Graeme Bailey that Bastoni could command a fee of over £80m.
He said: “Bastoni, we are talking about one of the most expensive defenders in the world; you are talking over £80million, maybe even close to £100million.
“Liverpool have been informed, and I believe they will monitor the situation to see whether Bastoni is available and how keen.”
Liverpool sold A LOT of players in 2025 – but which one will be their biggest regret, and why?
Nico Schlotterbeck
Like Guehi, Nico Schlotterbeck is expected to become a free agent in 2026.
Reports in December have said that Schlotterbeck will not sign a new contract at Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool are among the clubs linked.
We have suggested that the centre-back could be a long-term Virgil van Dijk replacement.
Zeki Celik
Moving away from centre-halves, it’s thought that Liverpool are interested in Zeki Celik.
He is understood to be in talks with AS Roma over a potential new contract, as his deal will expire this coming summer.
But the Reds and several other English clubs, including Manchester City, are said to have an interest in the right-back.
