Curtis Jones has stepped up at Liverpool during a difficult period for the club.
Less than a month ago, there was talk about Arne Slot being sacked amid what was a dire run of results.
Liverpool won just one in seven Premier League matches and picked up three wins in 12 across all competitions.
Federico Chiesa is being disrespected by Arne Slot! How would you use the Italian vs Tottenham?
However, as we head towards the end of December, the Reds are now unbeaten in five. So what has changed?
Well, Mohamed Salah’s exclusion from the eleven and Slot changing his formation may be contributing factors.
But the resurgence of Curtis Jones simply cannot be underestimated.
Curtis Jones has become a Liverpool leader
Danny Murphy thinks Jones has become so important for Liverpool, and it is hard to argue.
The midfielder was superb against Brighton and was similarly impressive in the win over Inter Milan.
But it’s not just on the field where the Liverpool local is thriving in 2025/26.
Amid a lack of clear leaders in the squad, Jones stepped up after PSV last month, speaking to the media when senior players like Mohamed Salah were nowhere to be seen.
Now, Lewis Steele has shared how the Englishman now has a leadership role in the dressing room.
Speaking to the Anfield Index, he said: “But he’s looked really good. He’s grown into sort of a bit of a leader figure as well in the dressing room from what from what people are saying. So, it’s all good for Curtis.”

Arne Slot comments on Curtis Jones before Tottenham
Jones is expected to once again start alongside Ryan Gravenberch when Liverpool travel to Tottenham on Saturday.
Ahead of the tie, Slot spoke to the press on Friday and was asked about the 24-year-old’s recent form.
The Dutchman suggested that he now needs to keep that consistency moving forward after previously struggling to do so.
He said: “He’s done really well in the last three games, and it is not the first time but maybe since I am here it is three times in a row for the first time very good performances.
“Maybe I didn’t like them as much as I did recently, so it is a challenge for him to go to the fourth or fifth game in a row.
“So much confidence, so much work rate, really comfortable on the ball as well. Last three performances are the base for him to go on and that starts tomorrow against Spurs.”
