Arne Slot faces more backlash if his Liverpool team does not perform against West Ham United this weekend.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Slot has spoken to FSG about what has been a dire run of results.

Liverpool are stuck in mid-table, having won just one of their last seven league games under the Dutchman.

Amid such poor form, it is somewhat surprising that Slot hasn’t made more changes to his starting eleven this season.

Arne Slot explains how Federico Chiesa can play more for Liverpool

Cody Gakpo continues to underperform on the left wing, yet he’s been able to maintain a regular starting berth ahead of Federico Chiesa.

The Italian has five goal contributions in 2025/26 despite hardly featuring and not playing more than 29 minutes in a Premier League game.

Now, ahead of West Ham, Slot was asked about Chiesa and Wataru Endo getting more minutes.

The Dutchman responded by suggesting they need to show more in training.

He said: “You think of everything, everything. Until now I tried things differently but they train with us and they can prove themselves in those moments.”

Will Federico Chiesa leave Liverpool in January

It was a pretty interesting response from Slot, who, it seems, from the outside looking in, does not favour Chiesa.

That may change next month once Mohamed Salah leaves to represent Egypt at the AFCON.

But if he continues to be left out of the eleven, a January exit cannot be ruled out after Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Chiesa’s future recently.

He said: “What I can tell you about Chiesa is that the player continues to demonstrate publicly, as do those close to him, that his will is to stay at Liverpool. He wants to play in Liverpool and stay in Liverpool.

“It’s clear that if a month or a month and a half from now – well into January – Chiesa still won’t have found the playing time he’s hoping for, and if Liverpool were to make another signing, a winger like Semenyo who’s a player Liverpool are targeting, in that case we need to be careful about Chiesa.”
