Liverpool could be in the market for a new right-back for the second year running after Conor Bradley picked up yet another injury this week.

Bradley has struggled with fitness ever since breaking into the Reds first-team in 2023.

The latest blow comes at a time when Jeremie Frimpong is also missing, and has intensified the spotlight on Liverpool’s right-back options.

Fans want to see Calvin Ramsay given a chance against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and Arne Slot has a decision to make with so many games to play over the coming month.

So far, the addition of Frimpong to act as competition for Bradley has not gone as planned. In the months since his arrival at Anfield it has become clear that there may have been better targets out there for Liverpool.

One who could come into that bracket is young Feyenoord starlet Givairo Read. Read was linked with Liverpool after breaking out under Slot in Rotterdam. But after the youngster was reported to be an active target for Manchester City on Friday, Reds fans are beginning to worry.

Liverpool could lose Givairo Read to Man City

Read has become one of the best young right-backs in Europe over the past year, emerging as a potential star of the future.

The 19-year-old even admitted to being a Liverpool supporter in an interview, but after journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Man City’s interest in Read on Friday, fans are now fearing they have let another prospect slip away.

“Nah man this guy literally said “it’s Liverpool and no one else” and we’re just gonna let it slide,” said one disappointed supporter.

“We have to be there. It would be the easiest signing for us to pull off,” added another. “Bradley and Frimpong are both injury-prone. Fast-track Frimpong to backup RW and bring Read in man.”

“Absolutely baffling decision not to sign Givairo Read this summer, he was keen to join and would’ve been the perfect, most obvious replacement for Trent. Huge missed opportunity,” was another fan’s verdict.

“We should’ve signed Nathaniel Brown and Givairo Read instead of Kerkez and Frimpong,” someone else claimed, with a facepalm thrown in for good measure.

“‘Frimpong’. This club’s recruitment fell off,” another added, while yet another took aim at the decision to sign the Netherlands international.

“That Frimpong signing was a disaster man what were we thinking,” they said. “We should be all over this and would be easy deal to do given Arne Slot connections and Read is an LFC fan.”

What is the latest on Read’s move away?

Watching footage of Read, it is hard to understand why Liverpool did not push harder to make a move happen during the summer window.

At 19 he is the perfect age to battle with Bradley for the starting spot, and could even come out on top given the Northern Irishman’s struggles.

According to Romano, however, it is City who have stolen a march in the race. Speaking on his YouTube channel on Friday, the transfer expert suggested a move could even happen as early as January.

“Man City want to sign a right-back during the January transfer window and the name we have to add to their shortlist is Givairo Read,” he said.

“He’s a player they are following, tracking and so let’s add this possibility. He’s not the only name on the shortlist but he’s on the list of possibilities for 2026, with Bayern also interested. I think we’ll hear a lot of rumours on this boy. “

If Liverpool fans are upset now, they are going to have steam coming out of their ears if Read eventually ends up at City.
