Jesse Marsch reckons that Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister is one of the most underrated players in the world.
The Argentinian has been a regular starter for Arne Slot since he took over from Jurgen Klopp, with the former Brighton man really coming out of his shell last season.
He managed to form a solid trio with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai, which helped Liverpool win the Premier League title.
This season, things have been fairly tough with the Reds often falling well below their usual standards.

Saturday’s game against Aston Villa was certainly a step in the right direction for Liverpool, and as long as players such as Mac Allister keep plugging away and proving their worth, everything should start to fall into place.
Jesse Marsch admits that Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister is underrated by most people
The fact that Mac Allister isn’t a fancy footballer and that he doesn’t always chip in with too many goals or assists means that he’s often overlooked.
However, others, such as Dominik Szoboszlai, have been receiving praise every other week for the impact he’s had on the team.
And, even though the numbers don’t really show it, Mac Allister is just as important as the Hungarian, with former Leeds United boss Marsch even claiming that he’s one of the most underrated players in the world.
This comes after the American manager was asked by GOAL USA about who he thinks the most underrated player is at the moment, to which he simply replied: “[Alexis] Mac Allister.”
Alexis Mac Allister is key to the way Liverpool play
When Mac Allister isn’t in Liverpool’s starting XI, his absence is felt massively.
The Argentinian is the Reds’ box-to-box playmaker, and without him, moves don’t often get started.
There have also been times when the midfielder has been used a little deeper, but even then, his attacking prowess is sorely missed.

Alongside Gravenberch, Mac Allister brings plenty of solidity to Liverpool’s starting XI, and if he were to exit one day, the Reds would have an impossible task trying to replace him.
Real Madrid have been linked with Mac Allister in the past, but, since most of their business over the last few years has been swooping talent away from their clubs upon the expiry of their contracts, it feels unlikely for that to happen any time soon.
