David Villa believes that Mohamed Salah is the best African player in the world at the moment.

Salah has been in a poor run of form ever since the 2025-26 season kicked off.

Since the start of the campaign, things just haven’t gone his way, with the winger also failing to create a solid link-up with Alexander Isak.

Most people thought that Liverpool would be unbeatable due to the number of world-class signings they made in the summer, but in reality, that’s been far from the case.

However, that hasn’t stopped Barcelona legend Villa from singing his praises.

David Villa thinks Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is the best African player in the world

Salah has been Liverpool’s star man for many years now.

Last season was his best-ever campaign in terms of goals and assists, with the attacker only missing out on the Ballon d’Or due to the Reds’ poor Champions League performance.

Indeed, Ousmane Dembele was a deserving winner, but if we look at their personal achievements, it was clear that the Egyptian King deserved a shot at winning the award.

Since then, Salah’s form has been poor, but that didn’t stop Villa from sharing his admiration for the former Roma ace.

“I think it’s Mo Salah. His talent, there are many good African players now, but if you ask me about one, Mo Salah is the most talented African player right now,” he said to SportyTV.

Hugo Ekitike has actually performed better than Mohamed Salah for Liverpool this season

Although Liverpool may have dominated the transfer headlines in the summer transfer window, hardly any of their new arrivals have had much of an impact.

Hugo Ekitike is the only exception to this, with the striker quickly adjusting to life as a Premier League player.

He’s outperformed the likes of Salah, Alexander Isak, and even Florian Wirtz this term, with many expecting him to just come in and be a backup.

Instead, Ekitike has turned into Liverpool’s very own version of Cole Palmer as he’s managed to outshine his teammates with his dazzling performances.

Salah still has a lot of time to set things straight at Liverpool, but at the moment, it’s unclear whether he’ll even get on the scoresheet any time soon.
