Exclusive with Graeme Bailey.
Liverpool are still firmly in the race for Marc Guehi but the Englishman is still very open about his future, Rousing The Kop understands.
The Reds were moments away from signing Guehi on deadline day, with everything in place for the Crystal Palace captain to be their final arrival of the summer.
It fell through at the 11th hour, however, although Liverpool are still firmly in the race to sign him on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of this season.
RTK understands that the Reds are still desperate to sign Guehi ahead of all their competition, but they could also welcome a new addition as early as January.
While this does not mean Guehi will not arrive in the summer, it perhaps shows Liverpool’s realisation that they need to do a lot more than just bring in one new defender.

Liverpool working on plans to bring in two new centre-backs
It is clear how strong admirers Liverpool are of Guehi and there is always a chance they try to make a move in January, but it is unclear as to how plausible that may be right now.
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey has exclusively told RTK, though, that the Reds are still very much in the mix despite competition for his signature, but that another defender could arrive before he does.
“Liverpool have kept lines of communication open with Marc Guehi’s people but they know that him leaving in January currently looks unlikely at this point,” Bailey said.
“Guehi is not in a hurry to leave, and Oliver Glasner’s stance has not changed – so whether Palace themselves are keen on a sale, that is no longer the main aspect.
“Liverpool remain hugely keen on Guehi and are very much in the mix, but I would say that we could easily see two CBs arrive at Anfield between now and next season.

“So they could bring one in for January and then also look at Guehi, that is very much part of their thinking.”
How does Marc Guehi feel about his future?
Given Liverpool’s start to the season, many may not blame Guehi if he has completely changed his mind, especially as Arne Slot’s future might be a little uncertain given their run of results.
Bailey, however, has confirmed that the Englishman is still open about his future, although that does not necessarily mean that Liverpool will be his final destination.
“Guehi is open about his future, he was ready to move to Liverpool but the chase for him has been reset,” Bailey said.
“He is now one of the most in-demand free agents we have seen. Every major club in Europe is ready to offer him a contract.”
