Liverpool’s player ratings against Brentford as Reds continue Premier League humiliation

Liverpool have now lost four Premier League games in a row.

The Reds have been going through a bit of a rocky patch lately but fans would have been hoping that their midweek win would have been enough to help them kick on.

This was far from the case, though, as they had a torrid night against Brentford, leaving West London with a 3-2 defeat.

Arne Slot certainly has a lot of thinking to do, with big changes needing to be made. Here is how the players rated.

Defence

Giorgi Mamardashvili: 4- Had the worst start possible after conceding early on, while also not looking comfortable on the ball throughout. The second goal was a little suspect too as he looked to dive out of the way. Not the best of nights for the Georgian.

Conor Bradley: 5 – Conceded a soft throw-in for Brentford’s first goal, but then also put a good ball in to create the chance for Milos Kerkez’s goal. Other than that, he was a little quiet, did a fairly decent job defensively, but did not offer a great amount overall.

Ibrahima Konate: 5 – Had a good battle with Igor Thiago and did an adequate job to keep him as quiet as possible. Fell asleep for the second goal, showing again that consistency is his problem.

Virgil van Dijk: 5 – Gave away a penalty after a lazy attempt at a tackle, even if it was unlucky just to be inside the box. Was not happy with Kerkez’s positional play early on either which made him work harder than he would have wanted to.

Milos Kerkez: 4 – Had a really poor first half but his goal may have made a few fans forget how poor he really was. Kerkez was a little rash, was poor on the ball and his positioning at points was very questionable.

Midfield:

Curtis Jones: 6 – Kept the ball well like he usually does and had a few neat passes, but could not affect the game as he did against Frankfurt. Gutting to go off with an injury as this was his time to impress.

Dominik Szoboszlai: 7 – Worked hard as always and tried his best to drive Liverpool forward. Looked like he cared more than most, also produced a brilliant assist for Salah’s goal. Needs those around him to help him out.

Florian Wirtz: 5 – Was a little poor in the first half and looked weak, also should have scored after putting a golden chance wide. He had a few good moments and certainly showed flashes of brilliance, but he could not find an end product. Also did nothing of note in the second half.

Attack:

Mohamed Salah: 6 – Missed an early opportunity due to a bad touch and was very quiet throughout. Took his goal excellently, though, despite not being in the game whatsoever. Hopefully this can give him a bit of confidence.

Hugo Ekitike: 5 – Was, unusually, poor in the first half and his hold-up play cost Liverpool with the second goal. Worked hard, though, and was a nuisance, just could not add another goal to his tally.

Cody Gakpo: 6 – Unlucky not to get a penalty in the first half, but was the right decision in the end. Had a few good moments, cut inside on a few occasions, but could not make an impact like he has done in recent weeks.

Substitutes

Andy Robertson: 5 – Came on to try and help Liverpool in attack, but could not do anything of note.

Alexis Mac Allister: 5 – Struggled to get into the game when coming on and hardly touched the ball.

Federico Chiesa: 5 – Not the best birthday for the Italian after starting on the bench and not being able to do much when coming on.

Rio Ngumoha: 5 – As all the other substitutes, did not really do much, but had a few chances to run with the ball. Just good to see the young man get some minutes.

Joe Gomez: N/A – Came on for Wirtz with just seven minutes left.
