Fabrizio Romano has shared that Liverpool remain interested in signing Marc Guehi despite interest now being shown in him by Tottenham.

Seeing as though Guehi’s summer transfer to Liverpool fell at the last hurdle, there have been questions asked about whether or not a new deal will be agreed upon between the player and the club.

It’s already been confirmed that Guehi will be leaving Crystal Palace one way or another this season, but the thing that isn’t known is which team he’s going to join.

Several clubs from across the world are interested in acquiring his services.

Bayern Munich have already made the first steps towards securing a deal for Guehi, as Max Eberl has already met with the agents of the Englishman, with Romano now explaining which other clubs are also interested.

It’s not very often that a player of Guehi’s quality becomes available on the market, let alone on the free agent market.

The centre-back has now had several years of Premier League experience, and he’s still just 25 years old.

He’d also help solve Liverpool’s problem of having too many non-homegrown players among their ranks and would arguably be an upgrade on Ibrahima Konate, with him also likely having half an eye on taking over from Virgil van Dijk when he departs.

And now, while speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, transfer guru Romano has given an insight into how things are playing out at the moment.

“The English clubs keep moving around Marc Guehi, with Liverpool still there after what happened on deadline day. Liverpool remain in the list of clubs interested in the player,” he said.

“There is also interest from more clubs, including Tottenham, Man City, including the Spanish giants for sure,” he said.

“And also Bayern, Bayern also had contacts with people close to the player. So it’s a big race for Marc Guehi. What I can guarantee is that the player is starting to explore these possibilities.

“He’s listening to proposals, listening to contract ideas, but also projects. It’s also about the technical project. Marc Guehi has been a big leader for Crystal Palace, won titles with Crystal Palace in recent months.

“But obviously, the next target is going to be in the race to win important competitions, like maybe the Premier League or domestic titles, and then obviously, the Champions League.

“So this will be the vision. Let’s see what’s going to happen, but Marc Guehi is going to be one of the big names for 2026.”

Marc Guehi would have been the answer to all of Liverpool’s problems this season

One recurring theme about Liverpool’s campaign this season has been the lack of form that their defenders have shown.

Even though Konate has got his performances back on track, it still feels like there have been a few times this season when his lack of form has cost Liverpool points.

In fact, one of his mistakes even led to Alisson getting injured.

However, if Liverpool had managed to sign Guehi on deadline day, he’d have been able to replace Konate and help shore up the Reds’ defensive line and perhaps even offer Van Dijk a break from time to time.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t how things turned out, and now, Arne Slot is suffering the consequences, especially since Giovanni Leoni has been ruled out for the season.
