Liverpool made several signings in the summer to try and improve their team.
The Reds ended up spending over £450 million on new players, with Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak the two most high-profile signings.
Although the previously mentioned duo cost over £240 million to bring in, neither of them have really hit the ground running.
Hugo Ekitike, on the other hand, has been a revelation for Arne Slot’s men.
The striker easily managed to fit into Liverpool’s tactical plans from day one and, to be honest, since the start of the season, he’s been the Reds’ star man.
However, now that Isak is fully fit, it seems like the former Frankfurt man has been chosen to be the Reds’ second choice.

Although he didn’t start the game against Manchester United on Sunday, Paul Scholes still believes that Ekitike put on a rather impressive display.
Paul Scholes was left in awe of Hugo Ekitike after his performance for Liverpool
Liverpool were embarrassingly beaten 2-1 by Manchester United over the weekend.
Going into the game, many thought that, despite Liverpool’s poor form, they’d manage to pull through and earn all three points.
And, while their second-half performance was much better than their first, Ruben Amorim’s men still beat the Anfield outfit after Harry Maguire scored a late winner.
Sunday’s defeat was the Reds’ fourth in a row across all competitions, and even though they’ve been in poor form, that didn’t stop Scholes from singling out Ekitike for his impressive performance.
“And I still think at some point they are going to gel together. There’s too many good players. You think of Isak and Ekitike,” he said on The Good, The Bad, & The Football Podcast.
“When he [Ekitike] came on, I was really impressed with him. Isak obviously missed a big chance where you thought he’s going to score, but he just can’t seem to get off and running at the minute, can he?”
Hugo Ekitike must start against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday
Liverpool’s next game is set to come against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League.
The German outfit are currently seventh in the Bundesliga with the likes of Koln and Stuttgart ahead of them.
They’ve only won one of their last five league games and, without Ekitike and Omar Marmoush leading their line, they’ve been nowhere near as impressive.
And, due to Ekitike’s inside knowledge of his former team and the fact that he played against Bundesliga opponents throughout the entirety of last season, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be chosen to start on Wednesday.

Liverpool need to prove that they’re serious contenders for the Champions League this season, especially after they were beaten 1-0 by Galatasaray a couple of weeks ago.
Most fans will expect them to easily win, but if they somehow end up adding yet another loss to their record, some serious questions will need to be asked.
