Gary Neville says one Liverpool player genuinely didn’t do much wrong vs Man Utd

Liverpool added yet another defeat to their total this season after they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester United on Sunday.

The Anfield outfit are now 4th in the Premier League table with the Red Devils just two points behind them in 9th.

At the start of the season nobody expected Liverpool to be close to dropping out of the Champions League spots, but if Arne Slot’s men suffer another loss at the weekend, they’ll be one step closer to doing so.

A lot of the Reds’ defeats this term have come due to the underperformance of Liverpool’s first-team squad.

One of the main problem areas this term has been right-back, with Slot not being able to choose between Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

However, Bradley was the one chosen for the derby with Gary Neville now lauding the defender for his performance.

Gary Neville doesn’t think that Conor Bradley did much wrong against Manchester United

As mentioned, Liverpool’s right-back situation has been brought under a lot of attention over the last few weeks.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was replaced by Frimpong with many thinking that the Dutchman would be a perfect replacement for the Liverpool academy graduate.

And, while he may have a similar attacking prowess to the Englishman, Frimpong has been outplayed on more than one occasion.

This is why Bradley and Szoboszlai have been the ones most-used as Slot’s full-backs with Neville now saying on the Gary Neville Podcast that he thought the Northern Irishman was solid against United.

“I think the individual performances of Liverpool’s defenders was really poor. And decision making, the left back’s not settled in. There’s no point in me going over that again,” he said.

“I said on this podcast, I think three weeks ago, he plays like a 10 year old left back. He’s all over the place. Right back, Conor Bradley was ok.

I don’t think he did anything particularly wrong.”

Liverpool must buck their ideas up before it’s too late

Many fans, pundits, and journalists expected Liverpool to be untouchable this season.

With the arrivals of players such as Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and Hugo Ekitike, many thought that even if the Reds’ defence wasn’t solid, they’d just be able to outscore everyone anyway.

However, due to Isak and Wirtz not finding their form yet and Mohamed Salah also not being at his best, some serious questions have already started to get asked.

Indeed, retaining the Premier League title for any team is a difficult task in itself but most thought that Liverpool would at least give it a bit of a better try than they currently are.

Of course, the fact that Bradley played decently for Liverpool is a step in the right direction.

But, if Liverpool don’t manage to improve their performances consistently, they could end up dropping out of the Premier League title race before Santa has even dropped off his presents.
