Liverpool vs Manchester United is one of football’s greatest rivalries, and the manager understands its importance.

This game has an incredible history, and the contexts surrounding it, including the two cities’ social ties, are what make it such a brilliant game filled with passion and spite.

Arne Slot’s team will look forward to welcoming the Red Devils to Anfield, considering that Liverpool have lost three games in a row, meaning they have more impetus to deliver for the home fans to maintain their position in the table.

Ruben Amorim’s side have not been at their best this season and, like last year, have been struggling for consistent form in the Premier League, but with a win in their last game, they may have more confidence than expected.

Slot has done an excellent job of taking over from Jurgen Klopp so far, winning the league in his debut season, and in terms of understanding the club, the Reds could not have employed anyone better.

Arne Slot calls Liverpool vs Manchester United a ‘special’ game

The Dutchman has embedded himself into the club and community in his uniquely calm manner and will only grow into the role as he spends more years on Merseyside.

What he does understand incredibly is the importance of certain games and in his latest press conference, he demonstrated just that as he talked up the importance of the United fixture.

Speaking to the press, the 47-year-old explained that this game is one he looks forward to the most out of any other fixture because of how involved the fans are and what it means to people across the world.

Slot said: “I look forward to every single Premier League game, but maybe even more towards the Man United one because I know how special a game it is. Probably the game watched the most all over the world.

“Special to be part of it, but it is the sort of game we have to be at our best as United in my opinion had better start than league table shows. So, a very interesting game and a game to look forward to especially because it is played at Anfield.”

Arne Slot will need to harness the passion to beat Manchester United

This is a game built on emotion and passion, which is the real battle to be won, regardless of the tactics of both managers.

While it will be important to have the correct setup, Slot’s formation and tactics are suited to beating Amorim’s system, given the space that this United side is prone to leaving.

So the focus should be on managing the emotion of the occasion while also harnessing the passion of fans and the meaning of the fixture to this side’s advantage.

The roar of the Anfield crowd should be enough, but this performance should be fought on physicality and creative thinking more than anything else.

If the Dutchman can bring this into the equation, fans will likely feel the relief of being dragged out of this poor run of form and feel the jubilation of defeating their fiercest rival.
