Liverpool are just one step away from unlocking Florian Wirtz’s potential after what he did for Germany

Liverpool made a fair few signings in the summer transfer window, with Florian Wirtz being among their biggest arrivals.

Many expected the 22-year-old to be the creativity that Liverpool were looking for after the departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold, but in reality, that’s been far from the case.

Although he has managed to chip in with one assist so far, most fans were likely looking for more from the young German.

Indeed, Wirtz’s lack of goal contributions doesn’t mean that he hasn’t tried his best; it just means that he’s been rather unlucky.

And, while playing for Germany on Friday night in their 4-0 win against Luxembourg, it feels like the Anfield outfit are just one step away from unlocking the attacking midfielder’s full potential.

Florian Wirtz was unlucky for Germany once again on Friday night

Although Wirtz’s contributions may not have had a direct impact on most of the Reds’ results this season, that doesn’t mean he isn’t creating plenty of chances.

The young German cost Liverpool an initial £100million to bring to Anfield, and even though he’s not hit the ground running yet, you can tell that there’s a more than capable player within him.

And, while away on international duty with Germany, they played against Luxembourg and beat them 4-0.

Once again, Wirtz didn’t manage to notch a goal or assist, but it was clear that he was one of the best players on the pitch.

As per the statistics from Sofascore, this was made more than evident as, during the 90 minutes of football he played, Wirtz created one big chance and made four key passes.

He also managed to maintain a pass accuracy of 88 per cent throughout the game, and he also managed to hit the woodwork once.

Wirtz had 95 touches of the ball, and although his natural position is in the number 10, Julian Nagelsmann chose to deploy him on the left and to be honest, this felt like his best position.

What Liverpool must do to try and unlock Florian Wirtz’s full potential

One of the main learning curves for Wirtz will be how much more physical the Premier League is compared to the Bundesliga.

England’s top flight is one of the toughest leagues in the world, with teams such as Crystal Palace managing to break Liverpool’s winning streak.

There are several things that Liverpool could try and do to get Wirtz playing at his full potential, but if Slot just gives him a license to roam and some more time to adjust, it feels like it’ll all just naturally come.

He can be used as an attacking midfielder or on the left wing, and since Cody Gakpo hasn’t been in the best run of form for Liverpool either, it wouldn’t harm anything to give the German an extended run on the wing.

Here’s hoping that, after a nice boost of confidence from playing for his country, Wirtz will come back to Anfield and finally be able to reach his full potential.
