Liverpool have made plenty of sales over the last few years.
Some have been justified, whereas others, the club may end up living to regret.
This is the same for most football clubs across the world, with many thinking they’re doing the right thing, but then, a year or two later, it feels like they couldn’t have done anything worse.
At the end of the day, this is football, and everything seems to be about money these days, with some deals just too good for clubs to turn down.
This is what happened with Neco Williams. The right-back was a decent understudy for Trent Alexander-Arnold, but when a £17million bid came in for him back in 2022, it was hard for Jurgen Klopp to say no.
And at the time, this made complete sense for both parties, as he was never getting a look-in over the Englishman, with Joe Gomez often being chosen to be the back-up.

Now, however, it feels like Williams’ sale could be haunting Arne Slot.
Neco Williams would have been the perfect solution for Liverpool this season
Of course, Williams still isn’t the best right-back in the Premier League or anything like that, but, since he’s been regularly chosen, the best version of him seems to have come out.
He’s solid in attack and defence, with the Wales international even having a keen eye for a pass.
This was proven in Thursday’s game between England and Wales when Stephen Warnock, while speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, lauded the right-back for a ball he put into England’s box.
“The first moment of quality from Wales,” he said.
“Neco Williams swings in an absolute beauty of a ball, and David Brooks is unattended at the back post.
“Credit to Jordan Pickford, he almost saved it with his thigh – very unconventional.”
Arne Slot is haunted by the decision that Jurgen Klopp made on Neco Williams
One of the Reds’ main problem areas this season has been their right-back.
Jeremie Frimpong was brought in to try and be their answer to the exit of Alexander-Arnold, but, in reality, it’s clear that he’s not strong enough defensively to be the Reds’ right-back.
Of course, the attacking prowess he brings to Slot’s starting XI is second to none, but it feels like Williams would be a much better option.
Conor Bradley is another option the Dutchman has at his disposal, and while he’s a bit better defensively, the fact that he isn’t able to keep his head during games is a slight cause for concern.

If Liverpool still had Williams among their ranks, he’d be a happy medium between the two and could end up being the answer to all their problems.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but for now, it feels like Slot would welcome a player of Williams’ calibre with open arms.
