Liverpool lost 2-1 against Chelsea on Saturday in their Premier League clash.

The Reds have had a tough time of it over the last week or so, with their last-minute luck now seeming to have run its course.

Now that we’re getting deeper into the 2025-26 season, the cracks among Liverpool’s first-team squad are now beginning to show, with several players performing below par.

Arne Slot chose to bench Florian Wirtz after a few disappointing performances, but, to be honest, this felt like the exact sort of game that a creative midfielder was needed in, which is likely why he was brought on at half-time.

However, Saturday’s game did see Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak play alongside one another, with Pat Nevin now sharing his thoughts on how their chemistry was throughout the game.

Pat Nevin says that Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah couldn’t get on the same wavelength for Liverpool

Many Liverpool fans expected the Anfield outfit to run away with the Premier League title this season.

Last term, Slot did the unthinkable and managed to bring the title to Merseyside at the first time of asking.

However, even though Richard Hughes and the Dutchman have spent over £400million on new signings, it feels like they were better off last term.

And now, while commentating on BBC Radio Five Live in quotes relayed by BBC Sport, Nevin has given his thoughts on the link-up between Salah and Isak.

“Isak hasn’t been in the match. It’s just not suited him yet,” he said.

“Right at the start he tried to link up with Salah, but it’s just not worked for them yet.

“Not many opportunities between the two of them but they don’t need that many because they’re such quality players.”

Arne Slot needs to get Liverpool’s first-team squad to gel with one another soon

Although it was guaranteed to take time for Liverpool’s players to gel this season, nobody expected it to take this long.

Most fans likely thought that the Reds would dominate most teams that they faced, and, although they got some decent results at the start of the campaign, their luck seems to have run out.

The last week or so has been extremely poor by Liverpool’s standards, due to their defeats against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, with their fans likely questioning why things are going so wrong.

Of course, there’s still plenty of time left in the season for things to be turned around, but if they continue in this downward spiral, they may as well kiss their title hopes goodbye.

This, after spending over £400million on new players, would be a massive disappointment and would cause some serious questions to arise.
