Ryan Babel sends public plea to Liverpool fans over Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike criticism

Liverpool have found themselves in some impressive form since the start of the 2025-26 season.

They’ve managed to win all but one of their games across all competitions this term, with their only defeat coming against Crystal Palace in the Community Shield final.

Of course, plenty of luck has been thrown their way with the number of last-minute winners they’ve scored, but on the face of things, it’s clear that the Reds have a much stronger team this term.

However, there have been a few fans and pundits who have been rather vocal about their criticism of some players, such as Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong.

And, while some of it is deserved, it still feels too early to be writing anyone off, especially with the amount of changes that have taken place at Anfield this term.

Ryan Babel has told Liverpool’s fans not to ‘write anyone off’ just yet

Since the start of the season, Ekitike has been one of Liverpool’s best players.

However, against Southampton on Saturday, his lack of experience shone through as he managed to get himself red-carded after taking his shirt off to celebrate a goal he scored.

The Frenchman had already been handed a yellow card earlier in the game for dissent, with his emotion getting the better of him, resulting in a sending off.

Frimpong, who cost Liverpool around £30million, has also had his fair share of critics this term, with many believing that Bradley would be the better option.

Tim Sherwood even singled out the Dutchman and said he had one of the “worst games you can ever imagine”, which seemed rather harsh.

And, with this in mind, taking to his personal X account, Ryan Babel shared his thoughts on the criticism from fans and told them to continue backing their players no matter what.

“I played 3.5 years for Liverpool. Times were different back then,” he wrote.

“Don’t write anyone off. Support them especially when the media puts pressure on them. It will be worth it.

“Wishing all the new signings the best of luck.”

Liverpool’s new signings still have plenty of time to prove their worth

With the amount of changes that occurred at Liverpool this season, there’s bound to be the odd teething problem here and there.

A lot of the players that Arne Slot and Richard Hughes brought in over the summer still have a lot to learn in the footballing world due to their age.

And, while all of their new signings have been more than solid, it still feels like it’s going to take some time until they’re fully gelled with one another.

On the face of things, this might seem like a scary thought, but since the Reds have won all five of their Premier League games so far, it feels like things can only get better from here.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but as long as Slot’s men keep plugging away, everything should end up working out as it’s supposed to.
