Arne Slot needs to drop ‘dangerous’ player against Crystal Palace, he has a much better option

Liverpool just about managed to beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday evening.

The two sides were facing one another at Anfield in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

Most fans and pundits expected Liverpool to easily win the game, but in the end, it was a hard-fought victory.

In fact, it was only because of Hugo Ekitike’s 85th-minute strike that Arne Slot’s men even won the game.

Several members of Liverpool’s first-team squad failed to impress on Tuesday, but it was Jeremie Frimpong who had a particularly poor game.

Jeremie Frimpong was one of Liverpool’s worst players against Southampton

Frimpong was the first player to be bought by Liverpool this season.

The right-back cost Liverpool around £35million, and he came in as a direct replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Since his arrival, he’s had a couple of decent games here and there, but since returning from injury, he hasn’t been the same player.

His lack of form carried on against Southampton as well, with the defender only registering 61 touches of the ball throughout the game.

That is, according to Sofascore, who also share that he made no clearances or interceptions in the game despite playing the full 90 minutes.

He was also dribbled past once, won only 25 per cent of his ground duels and even lost possession of the ball 15 times.

To make things even worse, he won zero per cent of his aerial duels and failed to deliver any accurate crosses throughout the entire game.

This poor performance is one of the main reasons why Slot should look at axing his fellow countryman and bringing Conor Bradley back into his starting XI.

Conor Bradley would be a much better option for Liverpool against Crystal Palace

One thing that Slot has made clear so far is that he doesn’t have a first-choice right-back between Frimpong and Bradley.

Both players deserve a starting spot in Liverpool’s team, but when an out-of-position Dominik Szoboszlai has been the Reds’ best right-back this season, it says a lot about Frimpong and Bradley.

Despite this, it’s clear that the Northern Irishman would be the better option of the two.

He already has a couple of years’ worth of Premier League experience and, from the games we’ve seen so far, he seems like a much better option defensively.

Indeed, Frimpong is very fast and can run up and down the right wing like there’s no tomorrow, but against Crystal Palace, the only other Premier League team who haven’t lost a game yet, Slot must choose his best players.

And, with what fans have seen over the last few weeks, it’s clear that Bradley is the man for Slot on Saturday.

That is, even though Frimpong has been called a “dangerous” player in the past.
