Jamie Carragher says Liverpool have a player who has been a ‘revelation’ this season

Liverpool have managed to have the perfect start to their Premier League season thus far.

The Reds have earned 12 points from their first four games of the campaign, with Arne Slot proving that he’s here to win.

Last term, Liverpool were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League, and now, with the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz among their ranks, it’s hard to see who can stop them.

A lot of the Anfield outfit’s players have been in decent form this term, while others still seem to be finding their feet.

Indeed, it’s going to take time for the Reds to be at their best due to the amount of change that has occurred, but already, glimpses of how talented Slot’s men are have been shown.

Jamie Carragher believes that Dominik Szoboszlai has been a ‘revelation’ for Liverpool this season

Dominik Szoboszlai has arguably been one of Liverpool’s best players this season.

The Hungary international has been in top form for the Anfield outfit once again, despite being played out of position in most of the games he’s played.

Each of Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong, and Joe Gomez suffered injuries at the start of the season, which forced Slot’s hand into playing Szoboszlai at right-back.

And, while he may not be as fast as the other three, his defensive contributions, coupled with his keen eye for a pass and ability to change the game, have all been key to Liverpool’s success this term.

Ahead of their game against Burnley on Sunday, Jamie Carragher was speaking to Sky Sports and shared his verdict on the form of Szoboszlai this term.

“He’s [Szoboszlai] been a revelation,” he said.

“He’s always split supporters really about his role in the team in midfield over the last couple of years, a big signing from Jurgen Klopp.

“There’s something about the full-back position, even though it’s early days, that I think does really suit him.

“He can still go into midfield, we see full-backs invert now, he’s got so much running capabilities, he can run up and down that line, he also adds a [bit of] height to the Liverpool team.”

Dominik Szoboszlai may not be best pleased when Liverpool face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday

At the moment, it’s hard to see how Slot could justify dropping Szoboszlai from his starting XI.

As mentioned, the midfielder has been one of his best players this term as he’s managed to turn the game in Liverpool’s favour on more than one occasion.

However, when Liverpool face Atletico Madrid in their first Champions League game of the season on Wednesday, it seems like Bradley, Gomez, and Frimpong will all be back in contention.

This means that even though Szoboszlai has been in fine form playing as a right-back, he may have to be moved up into the midfield.

That is, especially since Alexis Mac Allister still isn’t fully fit, and Curtis Jones wasn’t seen in training on Tuesday.

Indeed, midfield is his natural position, but for some reason, he seems to play much more freely at right-back, which is why he may not be best pleased being moved forward in Slot’s starting XI.
