Morgan Rogers says Liverpool have a player who’s so good that he ‘scares’ people

Liverpool were in fine form last season, with the Reds managing to run away with the Premier League title.

Indeed, there were some dodgy moments throughout the season, but in the end, they had a 10-point gap between themselves and second-placed Arsenal.

Of course, a lot of their performances and results were down to the form that Mohamed Salah found himself in last season, and although he’s had a bit of a slower start this term, it’s clear that he’s still one of the best attackers in the top flight.

And, now that Liverpool have the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak among their ranks, it’s hard to think of a team that could end up stopping them.

Not only is their attack among the best in the league, but with the arrivals of players such as Milos Kerkez, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremie Frimpong, the Reds’ backline is also rather solid.

Morgan Rogers lauds Virgil van Dijk after what he’s done at Liverpool over the last few years

One of the main players to have carried Liverpool over the last few seasons has been Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman is arguably the best centre-back in the world, with several clubs vying for his transfer last season.

And, although the Anfield outfit may have already conceded a few goals this term, that doesn’t mean that Van Dijk has been below par, because, on the face of things, he’s been one of Liverpool’s best players again.

And, while speaking to BBC 5 Live Sport, Aston Villa striker Morgan Rogers was naming his ultimate five-a-side team, which happened to include some praise for the Liverpool captain.

“Van Dijk and I’ll go, Kyle Walker [in defence],” Rogers said.

“[Walker is probably the best 1v1 defender that I’ve seen, I think [he’s] just so hard to get past.”

Rogers was then asked whether he thought the same about Van Dijk.

“Yeah I think, aura as well,” he said. “Just being there, I think the feeling of him just scares people.”

Rogers then filled the other positions of his all-time Premier League five-a-side squad with Kevin De Bruyne, Yaya Toure, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Liverpool must ensure that they have a Virgil van Dijk replacement ready for when he leaves

Last season, Liverpool managed to extend the contract of Van Dijk for another two years.

This means that, until at least 2027, the Dutchman will still be Liverpool’s captain.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether another extension to his stay will be negotiated, but with the way he’s performed this season, it would be silly for Liverpool not to at least think about it.

Indeed, they do have the likes of Leoni who could fill in Van Dijk’s boots eventually, but unless someone such as Marc Guehi is being brought in, the Reds will be far worse off.

The next couple of seasons are likely to be the last time that we see players such as Van Dijk and Salah at their best, but if they manage to bring another trophy or two back to Anfield, they’ll leave behind a lasting legacy.
