Liverpool fans woke up to the news they’ve all been waiting for on Friday morning.

The Reds have had a rough month or so, with three defeats in four games ending their hopes in two cup competitions.

However, as they prepare for a big game against West Ham on Sunday, Liverpool have been given an almighty boost.

Mohamed Salah has signed his new contract and is confirmed to be staying with the Reds until 2027. The saga is over.

Salah is of course not the only big name player who was out of contract at the end of the season, though. Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold now remain as the two left to get done.

But while Alexander-Arnold looks unlikely to sign on the dotted line, it appears Van Dijk will soon follow in Salah’s footsteps.

When will Virgil van Dijk sign his contract?

Friday morning was great timing for Salah’s contract announcement. The Reds did need something to lift them going into Sunday’s game.

A win would feel massive for Liverpool as they go in search of the four victories they need to make the Premier League title secure.

It remains to be seen whether a similar announcement on Van Dijk will come before the West Ham match, but according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Dutchman will sign ‘very soon.’

“Virgil van Dijk will sign his new deal at Liverpool valid until June 2027 very soon, agreement done,” Romano reports on X.

“All details of the contract have been sealed, also approved by the laywers and VVD will put pen to paper before end of the season.

“Two more years. Salah + Virgil, confirmed.”

How soon is soon?

After announcing Salah’s deal, Liverpool surely won’t want to wait long to confirm Van Dijk’s extension, too.

The captain is likely to get question after question about it after Sunday’s game, and it would feel wise to get it all boxed off before then.

As a result, it would not be a surprise to see an official announcement come either later on Friday or on Saturday.

Liverpool may want to let Salah rightfully have his moment initially, and so we’d suggest a Saturday unveiling may be more likely.

Either way, it is now just a matter of time before Liverpool’s two best players are tied down for the long term. That was not a given at any point during this season and it is a genuine relief to see the speculation ended. Enjoy it, Reds.
