Bayern Munich insider issues an update on Michael Olise after Liverpool interest

Liverpool have had a massive shake-up among their ranks this summer.

Over £400million has been spent on bringing new players through the Anfield doors, and although some, such as Alexander Isak, aren’t fully fit yet, it’s gearing up to be an exciting season for Liverpool.

They’ve already added nine points to their Premier League tally this term, and with their next game set to come against Burnley on Sunday, fans will be expecting another three to be added.

And although the 2025-26 summer transfer window has only just closed, there are already rumours emerging about future transfer windows, with one or two players already being linked with an Anfield switch.

Christian Falk says that Liverpool are now ‘watching’ Michael Olise

Although Liverpool have already brought in two new attackers this summer, with Mohamed Salah only having a year left on his deal when next season comes around, some future-proofing needs to be done.

Indeed, Arne Slot and Richard Hughes could decide to offer him an extension to his stay, but if he doesn’t perform to a high enough level, he may also be allowed to exit for free.

Virgil van Dijk is in the same situation, but, with the way that both have started the 2025-26 term thus far, it feels like an extension to their stays will be coming.

If an extension to Salah’s stay doesn’t end up occurring, Liverpool have already been linked with a move for Michael Olise, with Bayern Munich insider Christian Falk now giving an update on the situation.

“The case of Michael Olise’s contract at Bayern Munich bears some similarity to Jamal Musiala’s case – if you wait a little too long, it’s getting difficult,” he said.

“In the past, clubs would happily open such talks a year before the contract expired. But now, things are different! If you see such quality as Olise possesses, you have to do it much earlier, otherwise, the Premier League will be quick to swoop. Manchester City are watching him, Liverpool are watching him.

“As long as his contract is running, you have a chance to keep him. Now, Bayern need to see if they can convince him that his future is in Munich.

“On the one hand, there is an argument to boost his salary in line with the quality of his performances, but on the other hand, Bayern still want to lower salaries throughout the squad. So, it’s not easy!”

Liverpool could do a lot worse than Michael Olise as Mohamed Salah’s replacement

Last season was Olise’s best of his career by a country mile.

The attacker is still just 23 years old, so the fact that he contributed to 43 goals across all competitions last term is nothing short of extraordinary.

Although he spent most of his time used as a right winger, he was also used in attacking midfield by Vincent Kompany on occasion.

However, the fact that he could cost over £120million for Liverpool to sign next term is a massive red flag.

Indeed, the attacker is a world-class talent, but since the Reds have sold most of their valuable assets this summer, it’s hard to see how they’d be able to raise the funds to sign him.

Of course, Olise is likely Slot’s dream target, and, if this summer has shown us anything, it’s that, if Liverpool believe in a player, they’ll pay whatever it takes to get it over the line.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but with the way things panned out this summer, it would be a surprise to see FSG splash out another £100million+ bid in the near future.
