Liverpool managed to secure the transfers of most of their targets this summer.
Arne Slot was on a mission to rebuild his team and, after spending over £400million, he just about managed to do that.
Fans haven’t yet seen all their new signings in action, of course, but with their next Premier League game set to come against Burnley on Sunday, it would be surprising not to at least catch a glimpse of all Liverpool’s new arrivals.
And, even though Slot and Richard Hughes managed to sign most of their main targets this summer, there were a couple of deals that fell through the cracks.
Despite this, Liverpool are still seen to have had a near-perfect transfer window, with each player that has been brought in seen as an upgrade on the players they’ve replaced.

This, at the end of the day, is all that fans could ask for, and now, Liverpool must prove their worth, even if they didn’t get all the transfers they wanted to over the line.
Roy Keane is ‘amazed’ that Liverpool didn’t get Marc Guehi over the line
One of Liverpool’s biggest failures this summer was the fact that they didn’t manage to get the transfer of Marc Guehi over the line.
The centre-back had long been linked with an Anfield switch, and although the Reds were given the green light to sign him, Crystal Palace ended up pulling out of the deal in the dying embers of the transfer window.
In the end, it does seem to have worked out for Liverpool as, even though AC Milan were interested in signing Joe Gomez, a move for the Englishman didn’t go through, which would have left Liverpool with five senior centre-back options, if Guehi had actually joined, of course.
And, while speaking about Liverpool’s transfer business on The Overlap, Roy Keane gave his thoughts on the Reds’ failure to secure his services.
“That’s where there’s pluses to getting your business done [early]. I know it’s not the case for every club, but get your business done early if you can…Why did they wait so late [Guehi’s transfer]?”
“I’m amazed. We give Liverpool a lot of praise for getting their business done, but get that one over the line.”
Liverpool could still end up going for Marc Guehi next summer
A move for Guehi from Liverpool in January now seems to have been totally written off.
Even though the Englishman would likely be far cheaper in the winter transfer window, the fact that Liverpool could sign him for nothing in July is a far more intriguing prospect.
Indeed, Liverpool would then have five centre-backs among their ranks, but with the future of Ibrahima Konate still up in the air, they could also end up with three by the end of the 2025-26 season.
This would be far from ideal, especially with how scarce the centre-back market is at the moment, which is why a move for Guehi next summer makes plenty of sense.

It allows Liverpool to sign a world-class centre-back for nothing and perhaps even replace Konate without raising a finger.
At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen, but with the way things have panned out thus far, a move in the summer feels like it’s becoming increasingly likely.
