Steven Gerrard is undoubtedly one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players.
The midfielder was a stalwart within the Anfield outfit’s first-team squad, and throughout his time among Liverpool’s ranks, there was nobody better than the Englishman.
In fact, when players are asked who the best midfielder they’ve ever faced was, a lot of them end up saying Gerrard, even though the likes of Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard were around during that time.
Nobody will ever replace Gerrard due to what he meant to the club, but Arne Slot’s current midfield trio of Florian Wirtz, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister is among the strongest Liverpool have had over the last few years.

And, now that Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have joined, their strike force is also rather stacked.
Steven Gerrard believes Fernando Torres was better than Luis Suarez at Liverpool
During his time as the Reds’ captain, Gerrard had his fair share of impressive attackers leading Liverpool’s line.
The likes of Fernando Torres, Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez all come to mind, with each having a special place in the hearts of Liverpool fans.
And, while speaking to Shoot for Love Korea, Gerrard named who the better player was out of Suarez and Torres.
“They’re both world-class,” he said.
“I had the best chemistry with Torres for a short period of time, my connection, my relationship was probably the strongest I ever had with another player on the pitch.
“But, I get asked the question a lot ‘Suarez or Torres’, and I think all-round, as a footballer, I think Suarez just edges it.”
Luis Suarez is one of Liverpool’s best-ever strikers
Suarez, during his prime years, will arguably be the best version of a striker that Liverpool will ever see donning their colours.
The Uruguayan was a menace on the pitch, with the striker always managing to find a way to score a goal, no matter the angle or the area of the pitch he found himself on.
His goal-scoring prowess, coupled with Gerrard’s vision for a pass and Sturridge’s support, made the Reds have one of the best strike forces in the league.
Indeed, Torres was also an exceptional talent, but on the face of things, it’s clear why the Englishman chose the former Barcelona man.
| Games | Goals | Assists |
| 133 | 82 | 32 |
Indeed, a new era is set to start at Liverpool now that Isak has joined, and with the quality he showed last season, he could well exceed the legacy that Suarez left behind.
However, for the moment at least, the now Inter Miami player is still regarded as one of the best to ever wear the Liverpool shirt.
