Alexander Isak’s transfer to Liverpool was undoubtedly the story of the summer.
Ever since the transfer window first opened, it felt like every other day, there was a new story emerging around the saga.
In the end, despite Newcastle being adamant that they wouldn’t sell him for any less than £150million, an agreement was reached and Liverpool got their man.
Indeed, £125million for Isak is no small fee either, but it was certainly more realistic than the amount Eddie Howe had in mind.

However, even though the Reds’ fans get to see Isak in a Liverpool shirt this season, they did end up missing out on another long-term target.
Ally McCoist believes Marc Guehi’s Liverpool move was more important than Alexander Isak’s
Over the summer, Liverpool sold both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz, even though they only had four senior attackers among their ranks.
The aforementioned duo were integral to the way Arne Slot’s team played last season, and without solid replacements, it’s unknown how they would’ve fared this season.
However, Liverpool’s defence was also in need of bolstering, and although players such as Giovanni Leoni and Milos Kerkez were signed, the arrival of Marc Guehi was the move Slot wanted the most.
And, despite him undergoing his medical with Liverpool, the deal fell through, leaving the Reds somewhat short at the back.
Speaking about Guehi’s situation while live on talkSPORT, Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist gave their opinions on what it could mean for Liverpool.
“I think it’s a massive blow for Liverpool by the way [not signing Guehi],” Stelling said.
“I thought they had a wonderful transfer window until that deal fell through, and now, they’ve left themselves potentially very short at the back.”
McCoist then shared his opinion and said: “We said that [Liverpool are one injury away from a mess at the back] yesterday, didn’t we? We actually said in conversation that Guehi’s move to Liverpool could’ve been more important to them than the Isak one.”
Liverpool must try and sign Marc Guehi in the January transfer window
Even though Guehi was a complete gentleman about his future away from Crystal Palace, Steve Parish and Oliver Glasner denied him the chance to make his dream move.
Throughout most of the summer transfer window, the Englishman was linked with a Liverpool move, with most fans expecting it to go through.
A fee worth £35million was accepted, but due to Palace’s inability to find a replacement, his exit was denied.
And, since he only has 12 months left on his current deal at Selhurst Park, this means that he can be signed for nothing by foreign clubs in the January transfer window.
Or, if Liverpool still want to add him to their ranks by the time the next transfer window comes around, they should offer an even lower fee for the centre-back to try and prise him away once again.

To be honest, whatever happens this season, it still feels like Guehi will become a Liverpool player one way or another.
But, since he didn’t get his move without kicking up a fuss this summer, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him act like Isak to get his own way.
