Marc Guehi’s transfer saga finally seemed like it was coming to an end.

Liverpool had been given permission to undergo a medical for the Englishman, with the deal said to be worth around £35million.

Journalists such as Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein all said that the move was all but officially confirmed, but, in reality, things haven’t quite lined up as most expected them to.

And now, there seems to have been yet another stumbling block in the saga.

Igor Julio’s move to Crystal Palace has now collapsed, leaving Marc Guehi’s future unknown

Liverpool have been on the hunt for Guehi for as long as many can remember.

The Reds have been in dire need of defensive reinforcement, and even though players such as Giovanni Leoni were brought in, it was clear that Guehi was their dream target.

And, even though the defender is currently undergoing his medical, it seems like a new ‘snag’ has emerged in the potential deal.

“Marc Guéhi’s proposed £35million move to Liverpool seems to have hit a snag despite the England centre back starting a medical,” Gary Jacob wrote for The Times.

“Crystal Palace have encountered an unknown problem trying to sign a defensive replacement to allow Guéhi to leave.

“Palace want someone in addition to centre back Igor Julio joining on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

“There are less than three hours of the window left for Palace to resolve the issue and in turn, that of Guéhi’s future.”

Liverpool cannot allow the transfer of Marc Guehi to slip out of their hands

Liverpool have done many things right this summer but losing Guehi would be a massive blow.

Although the move isn’t solely down to the Reds, they must do everything they can to get a deal over the line.

At the moment, it’s clear what both Guehi and Liverpool want and, unless Palace don’t mind losing him for free at the end of the season, this will be the last chance they get to earn some money from their star man.

Indeed, a fee worth £35million is a steal for the centre-back, which is yet another reason why this transfer cannot slip through the cracks.

Here’s hoping that Crystal Palace can work some magic and find themselves another replacement for their captain before it’s too late.
