Marc Guehi has finally been given the green light to undergo his Liverpool medical.

The Reds have been in pursuit of the Englishman for the longest time, with Fabrizio Romano now confirming that he’s set to become a Liverpool player.

Although the Reds may have signed Giovanni Leoni as a new centre-back this season, the fact that they’ve managed to sign a centre-back of Guehi’s quality for a fee worth around £35million is mesmerising.

Last summer, Crystal Palace were rejecting bids worth around £70million for their captain, but, since he’s now in the final 12 months of his contract, his price tag has been sliced in half.

Marc Guehi is set to sign a five-year deal with Liverpool

It goes without saying that Guehi is one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

In fact, he could even be seen as England’s best centre-back at the moment, with John Stones a close second.

And now, as per a report from David Ornstein, it seems like Liverpool have locked the Englishman down for the next five years.

“BREAKING: Marc Guehi to undergo medical in London before proposed permanent switch from Crystal Palace to Liverpool,” he wrote.

“Deal for 25yo Crystal Palace centre-back agreed at £35m + 5yr Liverpool contract in place as all parties work to seal Deadline Day move.”

Liverpool need to build Richard Hughes a statue after his performance in the 2025-26 summer transfer window

Richard Hughes has pulled off a masterclass this summer.

There are no other words to describe what Liverpool’s sporting director has done this summer apart from dubbing it a masterclass.

Granted, the Reds have spent over £400million on improving their ranks, but the fact they’ve made so much money from the sales of their players, such as Luis Diaz, means that their net spend isn’t all that much.

That is, when the quality of players they’ve added to their ranks is taken into account, of course.

On paper, it’s hard to think of a better transfer window for any football team ever, let alone in this day and age.

If the Reds don’t end up building Hughes a statue, there’s something seriously wrong.

In all seriousness, though, major credit needs to be thrown in Hughes’ way because without him and his tough negotiation skills, the Reds would have likely had a much worse window than the one they’ve managed to pull off.
