Oliver Glasner looks like he’s changing his mind on Marc Guehi as Liverpool arrangements emerge

Liverpool’s transfer deadline day has been far from straightforward.

In the early hours of Monday morning, it was reported that a deal had finally been struck to confirm the transfer of Alexander Isak to Liverpool.

The fee is expected to be worth around £125million with both clubs coming to a compromise regarding their price tags.

From that point on, things haven’t got any simpler with potential transfers for Marc Guehi, Harvey Elliott, and even Joe Gomez lined up.

And, while Liverpool may have an idea of most deals that are coming in and out of Anfield today, there are still some question marks around the future of Guehi.

Oliver Glasner is now keen on signing Strahinja Pavlovic from AC Milan

One of the main things that has been holding back the potential transfer of Guehi to Liverpool is that Palace haven’t been able to source a replacement for their captain.

This was made evident on Sunday evening when the Englishman once again captained his side as they beat Aston Villa 3-0 in their most recent Premier League clash.

However, over the last few hours, the Reds’ confidence on finalising a deal has risen, with the club now expecting Guehi to become a Liverpool player before the deadline strikes.

This is further backed up by a report from Sky Sports, which outlines that Oliver Glasner could now also be coming around to selling his star man.

“Oliver Glasner is keen for the club to complete a deal for the Serbia international defender Strahinja Pavlovic, although the latest we have been told is that negotiations are not currently progressing,” they wrote.

Marc Guehi’s transfer to Liverpool now feels like a matter of time

As mentioned, Guehi has long been linked with a potential move to Anfield.

And, even though Liverpool may have four centre-backs among their ranks now that Gomez is set to stay, the Englishman is likely to have a prominent role in Arne Slot’s first-team squad.

Not only is this because of the poor performances that Ibrahima Konate has put in over the last few weeks, but it’s also because Liverpool wouldn’t spend around £35million on a player who’s likely to sit on the bench.

Never mind someone with as much Premier League experience as Guehi has.

Of course, the transfer window is ever-changing and stumbling blocks can always turn up, but with the way things have panned out for the Reds so far, it feels like it won’t be too long before we see the centre-back donning the Red of Liverpool.
