Joe Gomez’s Liverpool future has been under question for the last 24 hours or so.
The centre-back put in an impressive 10-minute display while playing for Arne Slot’s men in their 1-0 win against Arsenal on Sunday as he proved he still has what it takes to be an important part of the club.
However, this didn’t stop rumours about his future from spreading, with the Serie A outfit even making a £13million bid for him on Sunday.

Now that there isn’t all that long left in the transfer window, however, clarity has finally been shared on where the Englishman’s future may lie.
AC Milan have pulled out of their chase for Liverpool’s Joe Gomez
Last season, a fair few clubs were interested in signing Gomez, but this summer, it felt certain that he was going to stay at Anfield up until the last couple of days.
Indeed, Crystal Palace did try and strike a deal with Liverpool to sign him on loan as part of their potential move for Marc Guehi, but in the end, that was brushed off.
And now, as per a report from Sky Sports journalist Gianluca di Marzio, an update has been shared on what is likely to happen with Gomez this summer.
“There was an agreement with Liverpool for Joe Gomez,” he wrote via his personal X account.
“The player was ready to leave. But Liverpool did not authorize the transfer and Milan now drops the pursuit because it wouldn’t have the necessary time for the medical examinations.”
Liverpool should be thankful that AC Milan have pulled out of the deal for Joe Gomez
Although Gomez’s injury history has left a lot to be desired over the last couple of seasons, there’s no hiding from the fact that he’s an impressive player.
As mentioned, his cameo against Arsenal further proved this, and the fact that he can play anywhere across the back four is just an added bonus.
However, you can see why the Englishman was entertaining the idea of making a move this summer, especially since the 2026 World Cup is coming up at the end of the season.
But, if Liverpool don’t end up signing Guehi and Ibrahima Konate continues putting in poor performances, Gomez could end up earning his spot in Liverpool’s starting XI once again.

Of course, the deal for Guehi hasn’t had a definitive answer given to it yet, and, at the moment, it’s anyone’s guess what could happen.
However, with the way things have panned out for Liverpool thus far, it’s hard to see why they wouldn’t be able to find a way for Gomez and Guehi to both play regular roles this season, especially since that’s what Slot wants.
