Liverpool made their 1-0 win over Arsenal even sweeter on Sunday evening after talks for the transfer of Alexander Isak advanced massively.

The Reds continued their perfect start in the Premier League after beating the Gunners at Anfield, with Arne Slot’s men now sitting on top of the table with nine points.

Chelsea are the ones in second on seven, but with Isak now set to join Liverpool, it’s hard to see any team managing to dethrone them this term.

Even before rumours of Isak’s potential Anfield switch first emerged, the Reds were seen as the favourites, but with players such as the Sweden international and Florian Wirtz among their ranks, they could even be deemed as the best team in the world.

The fee for Isak is reported to be worth around £125million, which, even though it’s a British record fee, seems like money well spent.

Alexander Isak’s Liverpool medical is scheduled to take place late on Monday morning

As mentioned, Liverpool are on the cusp of confirming the transfer of Isak from Newcastle.

The arrival of the Sweden international would mean that the Reds have five senior attacking options for the season, with one of the world’s best strikers leading their attacking line.

And, with players such as Wirtz and Mohamed Salah around him, it’s going to be nigh-on impossible for him not to thrive.

In a report shared by journalist Ben Jacobs via his personal X account, an update has been shared on when Isak’s medical is set to take place.

“Alexander Isak’s British transfer record £125m move to Liverpool was agreed after midnight,” he wrote.

“Understand Isak’s medical is scheduled to begin late morning.”

Alexander Isak is exactly what Liverpool needed to prove they’re ready to compete

For the last few seasons, Liverpool have been rather reserved regarding their spending.

Last summer, Federico Chiesa was the only player brought to Anfield, with the Italian costing Liverpool a mere £12.5million.

And, while he quickly became a fan favourite, his on-pitch impact was very minimal.

However, now that the Reds have spent a hefty chunk of change and have brought Isak in, it’s clear that they mean business.

Last term, they dropped out of the Champions League sooner than many likely expected, but, in the end, it may have worked out for the best as they came away with the Premier League title.

In the 2025-26 campaign, however, if Slot doesn’t throw everything at both competitions with the quality he now has among his ranks, there’s something seriously wrong.

Only time will tell what the future has in store, but with Isak almost a Liverpool player, things are looking rather bright for the Reds’ fanbase.
