Liverpool are still on the lookout for new talent to add to their ranks despite spending a hefty chunk of change already this summer.
The Reds were one of the most dominant teams in the Premier League last season and, with all the new signings they’ve made, it’s hard to see how they won’t be the team to beat again.
The arrivals of players such as Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez have instantly added more quality to their first-team squad, but they’re not likely to stop there.

At the moment, several names are being thrown into the hat for Liverpool to target this summer, but there’s one player who seems to be constantly cropping up.
Steve Kay left baffled by Liverpool’s move for Alexander Isak
One of the main areas Slot has been looking to strengthen this summer is his striker.
Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo all shared the role last term, and while Diaz and Gakpo put in a more than solid effort, the Uruguayan left a lot to be desired.
And now, while speaking on The Transfer Exchange Show, transfer insider Steve Kay has given his verdict on the Reds’ attempted heist for Alexander Isak.
“Only Liverpool know what they were thinking going for Isak. Speaking to people around the industry and stuff, they never thought for one minute that Isak was ever going to leave Newcastle,” he said.
“I don’t know what Liverpool went in for or if they made a bid. Newcastle now are looking for another striker, someone else to come in to play up front with Isak.”
Alexander Isak would have been an incredible coup for Liverpool
Even though Liverpool are in the advanced stages of bringing Hugo Ekitike to Anfield, there’s no doubt that they’d have preferred to sign Isak instead.
The attacker has plenty of Premier League experience with Alan Shearer even calling him a “world-class” player due to the form he showed during the 2024-25 campaign.

Liverpool were actually willing to put up the money to sign the towering Swede, but due to the striker having three years left on his current deal, Newcastle didn’t need to sell.
Of course, there’s a chance that Liverpool go back in for him next season, but at the moment, it feels like a move is dead in the water.
