Liverpool could still make an even bigger signing than Florian Wirtz this summer

Liverpool are on course to spend more money in a single transfer window than they ever have before.

Reds fans must feel like they are in dreamland right now as, for once, there are actions behind all the rumours.

Money appears to be no barrier and they will have spent around £186m on Jeremie Frimpong, his old teammate Florian Wirtz and left-back Milos Kerkez, and that is only if all the add-ons are achieved.

Although two of these players are not technically through the door just yet, it only seems a matter of time, with Wirtz the big one that fans are eagerly awaiting.

However, despite being the player set to demolish the British transfer record, the German may only hold that for a very short time as the Reds could still make a move for one of the biggest strikers in Europe.

Liverpool could still sign Alexander Isak this summer

A new number nine is a top priority for the Reds and many names have been linked, but none of them have the same gravitas behind them as Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Isak has always been Liverpool’s favourite striker and the man they want to bring to Anfield, although his hefty price tag appears too much, too soon.

However, Daily Mail journalist Lewis Steele has suggested how much he thinks the Swede might cost and that a move for him is not dead and buried just yet.

“Newcastle don’t want to sell Isak for cheap, it’ll have to be ballpark figure of: £130m-£140m,’ Steele confirmed on his Youtube channel.

“Are Liverpool realistically going to pay that in a summer where they signed Florian Wirtz? Hard to see, but I wouldn’t completely rule it out.”

Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Isak is Liverpool’s dream signing but the deal remains complicated, suggesting there really still is a possibility that this happens.

If this is the case and the Reds, somehow, manage to get him, this would take their summer spending up to over £300m spread across four players, hence the reason why so many players are linked with a move away to balance the books.

Alexander Isak is so much better than Liverpool’s other options

The fee would be considerably more but so would the talent, and the risk would also be reduced as he is already Premier League-proven.

Isak out-scored Bundesliga duo Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko last season, suggesting he would be a much better option than both of them.

Victor Osimhen may have opened the door for Liverpool recently by reducing his wage demands and, despite more goal involvements than Isak, played in a much lower quality league, suggesting that there is not much in it.

Isak’s injury record is the only downside to this transfer happening as he has missed 39 games across his three seasons at Newcastle, although last season he missed the fewest number of matches, suggesting it might be worth the risk.
