Liverpool have had one of the busiest summers of anyone, and they are close to completing deals for a few more stars.

Reds fans are not used to seeing their club go all-out for some of Europe’s biggest names, but Liverpool are doing just that for Florian Wirtz.

To sign the German, Liverpool must demolish the British transfer record, something they don’t seem to mind too much as the deal is almost complete.

Spending around £126m seems like a ridiculous amount, but Liverpool have been scouting Wirtz for five years, suggesting they know what they are doing.

As well as this, the now-22-year-old has been destined for greatness ever since he was young, with one former coach tipping him to become the next big thing when he was just 17.

Florian Wirtz predicted to ‘go a long way’ by former Germany coach

Wirtz broke Bayer Leverkusen’s record for their youngest-ever debutant back in 2020, doing so at the age of 17 years and 15 days old.

As expected, the hype surrounding him sky-rocketed overnight, with his under-17 coach for the National Team, Christian Wuck, highlighting to GOAL at the time just how far he thought he would go.

“We at the DFB [German Football Federation] believe that he is an outstanding player in the 2003 year,” Wuck said.

“I have been able to accompany the 2003 year [players] over the past few years and think that there are some interesting players. Flo is certainly one of the top three. He can go a long way if he continues like this.”

He ended by saying: “Flo is incredibly intelligent. He recognises situations on the field within a very short time and draws the right conclusions. What makes him so special and what sets him apart from many other youth players is his excellent training in basic technology. He is two-footed and has incredibly good technique.”

Amassing over 225 games in his career at just 22, the German provides much more than just goals and assists, with his overall creativity helping his side dictate games and cause defenders real problems.

A regular in the German National Team as well, Wirtz has established himself on the world stage for all to see and it is no surprise to see Liverpool go all out for him, with his old coach certainly being proven right by his former player.

Wirtz should be set for his Liverpool medical soon, and he certainly has high expectations to fulfil.
