Liverpool secured the Premier League title last month against Tottenham, and since then, there’s been a lax mood about the remaining fixtures in the calendar.
The Reds are yet to win a single game since securing the championship in stunning style in late April, with Liverpool’s latest Premier League result being a 3-2 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion, a game that the Anfield side were leading at two different stages.
One noticeable absence from the entire squad on the day was Alexis Mac Allister, who after starting the last two games on the bench was missing completely for Monday’s trip down to the south coast, with Arne Slot since confirming that the Argentine international is dealing with a fitness problem.
However, Slot’s comments on Mac Allister also opened the door to something that should excite Liverpool fans about what could come from the former Brighton man next season.

Alexis Mac Allister being fully fit for next season is huge for Liverpool
Having made 49 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, Mac Allister’s importance to the Reds has never been greater, with the 26-year-old midfielder forming an incredible partnership alongside Ryan Gravenberch that has established the pair as two of the best in the Premier League.
And whilst Mac Allister will miss the final game of the season on Sunday, Slot did confirm that the Argentine will be fully fit to go again in the new campaign, a year that could see the midfielder take his game to another new level.
| Alexis Mac Allister’s 2024/25 Liverpool stats | Games played | Goals | Assist |
| Premier League | 35 | 5 | 5 |
| FA Cup | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 6 | 0 | 1 |
| UEFA Champions League | 8 | 2 | 0 |
| Total | 49 | 7 | 6 |
Slot said about Mac Allister’s fitness: “Alexis will not play for us this season anymore. He needs rest at this moment in time to recover completely and to be ready for the start of next season, but it will be no problem for him to be back next season.
“I think he played throughout the last part of the season with the Argentinian mentality he has. Never gives up, no matter what he feels, but it is not smart to play a player that has, not a big injury but something to take a risk with.”
Alexis Mac Allister could be even better for Liverpool next season
Adam Lallana once hailed Mac Allister as ‘special’ as the Liverpool no. 10 this season took his new role as a deep-lying midfielder to a whole new level, with Slot getting the best out of the Argentine international in the position.
And next season could see Mac Allister become even better for Liverpool, with new signings expected to elevate the overall quality of the squad by some considerable margin if the Reds can bring in the right targets over the summer.
With Gravenberch also likely to improve, Liverpool’s midfield pivot could become the best in the world if Mac Allister returns to Merseyside completely refreshed after the summer, where the 26-year-old won’t have an international competition to worry about, as well.
