Liverpool are seemingly intent on getting their summer transfer business completed early as things begin to heat up in the market.

The Reds still have two games left to play this season, but are already making moves to bolster their squad.

Jeremie Frimpong looks likely to arrive in a deal which could reportedly be finalised as quickly as this weekend.

Meanwhile, Frimpong’s Bayer Leverkusen teammate Florian Wirtz has emerged as a top target for Liverpool as they aim to add more creativity to Arne Slot’s team.

With right-back also set to be sorted out, Liverpool are fast beginning to tick off their transfer shortlist for this summer.

There are still several needs remaining, though, one being the potential of a midfielder arriving to provide competition and cover for Ryan Gravenberch. And according to the latest rumours, Liverpool could be looking to sort that out, too.

Liverpool eyeing £60m Adam Wharton swoop

A new midfielder is not Liverpool’s top priority this summer. Clearly, they need a centre-forward signing and left-back to go alongside Frimpong and, hopefully, Wirtz.

However, it cannot be ignored that Gravenberch has noticeably tired towards the end of the season. Having someone Slot trusts to rotate with the Dutchman would be beneficial.

For many Liverpool supporters, that somebody should be Adam Wharton. Reds fans were impressed with Wharton during last month’s FA Cup semi-final, where the 21-year-old shone for Crystal Palace.

And according to The Daily Mail, Liverpool are one of the teams keeping a close eye on Wharton.

They claim that the Reds are ‘monitoring the situation’ in regards to a blockbuster deal for the England international.

Although previous valuations have been much higher, it’s reported that Wharton is thought to be capable of fetching around £60m in transfer fees for Palace.

Wharton is ‘future of England’s midfield’

Although £60m is still a big fee to pay for a player with just one-and-a-half seasons of Premier League football behind him, many Liverpool fans will think Wharton is more than worth it.

Another who is a big Wharton fan is Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, who hailed the youngster after seeing him up close on England duty.

“In training, he impressed a lot of the players. He’s so composed and calm on the ball,” said Rice.

“I think he’s one of them that doesn’t get fazed by big things. So yeah, two great additions [Wharton and Kobbie Mainoo] and I’d say the future is looking bright for England in midfield.”

If Liverpool push ahead and get themselves to the front of the queue for Wharton this summer, the future could be even brighter for Slot’s midfield. One to keep an eye on.
