Liverpool are not hanging around as they look to get their summer business rolling before the end of the season.

The Reds have made a habit of securing deals early into the transfer window and look likely to continue that tradition into 2025.

Rumours of summer plans have started to ramp up over recent days, with claims that Liverpool have spoken to Florian Wirtz over a move especially exciting supporters.

But while the move for Wirtz currently hangs in the balance, Liverpool are seemingly much further ahead in a push to sign Bayer Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong is a key target to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and things appear to be advancing quickly with the 24-year-old.

As Liverpool fans prepare for what looks likely to be their signing of the summer, journalist David Ornstein has provided a probable timescale for the deal to be completed.

Liverpool could sign Jeremie Frimpong this weekend

Although there are some reservations about his defensive capabilities, there is little question that Frimpong would be an exciting arrival for Liverpool.

The Dutchman has been one of the best right-backs in Europe over the past two seasons and is available at a cut-price £30m release fee.

And according to Ornstein for The Athletic on Thursday, there is now an ‘increasing confidence’ that this is a deal that will get over the line.

Liverpool are said to be ‘advancing’ in their talks to sign Frimpong, with the release clause reportedly seen as being ‘appealing’ to the Reds.

As well as no haggling needing to be done with Bayer Leverkusen over the fee, personal terms are also said to be a non-issue, with Frimpong reportedly keen on joining Liverpool.

Crucially, Leverkusen are claimed to be ‘aware of the situation’ and are reportedly expecting the transfer to be concluded quickly following the final Bundesliga game of the season on Saturday.

One down, three to go for Liverpool?

Liverpool’s dedication to getting deals done early means they could box off a big need in this summer’s market by getting Frimpong done before the campaign even ends.

Once the right-back is through the door, Liverpool will likely focus on three more key signings.

The first should be at left-back, where the likes of Milos Kerkez and Rayan Ait Nouri remain in the mix. A striker is also on the cards and it remains to be seen who emerges as the front-runner in that search.

Finally, a creative player in the mould of Wirtz seems to be high on the Reds’ list, too. Xavi Simons could be an option if Wirtz slips away, while there have also been recent strong links to Rayan Cherki.

One negative of having a fast start to the transfer window is that the rest of it can be a little slow. But Liverpool fans won’t be thinking about that for the time being as Frimpong gears up to become a Red.
